The International Symposium of MPS 2020 in Barcelona is an event organized and
coordinated by MPS Spain in collaboration with different MPS societies worldwide.
It is a space for dissemination and exchange of knowledge between the medical-
scientific community and affected families, in order to bring the latest developments in
research, treatment, clinical management and comprehensive care of
mucopolysaccharidoses and related syndromes.
It is a meeting point that brings together the best international experts, as well as different
medical societies, scientists and the pharmaceutical industry related to these
pathologies.
INTRODUCTION
Dear all,
As you may know, the Spanish Association of Mucopolysaccharide and Related Diseases
(MPS España) will hold the 16th International Symposium on MPS and Related Diseases in
Barcelona from July 31st to August 2nd, 2020.
The Spanish MPS Society is a non-profit organization that works every day to raise
awareness on these diseases, Muchopolysaccharidosis (MPS) and related
syndromes/diseases (RS), in order to support individuals and families suffering from these
diseases and also improve their quality of life and to promote their social integration.
Our aims are:
1. To promote scientific research into the causes, effects, development and therapy for
Muchopolysaccharide and related syndromes.
2. To support families. To give information and advice.
3. To promote seminars, conferences and advice.
4. To promote, in general, preventive measures and specifically those that prevent
genetic transmission.
5. To increase public awareness of Mucopolysaccharide and Related Diseases.
6. To promote scientific grants, awards, etc.
Mission
To raise awareness of Mucopolysaccharidoses and other Lysosomal Diseases in society, to
prioritize the efforts in scientific research and to improve the quality of life of affected
people.
Vision
To make sure that all the people with MPS-Lysosomal Diseases have a treatment, a cure
and a better quality of life. To be the state reference entity and provide comprehensive
support to people suffering from these diseases.
16th International Symposium on MPS and Related Diseases
The International Symposium on MPS and Related Diseases is held every two years in a
different country and it’s organized by the local MPS association. These international
symposiums aim to gather the Pharmaceutical industry, scientists, doctors and families
from all over the world in order to share innovations, research, results and information on
these diseases, both for medical and Pharma professionals, and also for families. They
promote further research and knowledge on the matter at an international level in order
to find better solutions to improve the patients’ quality of life and support the families in the
process.
On 2020, the 16th edition of this symposium will take place in Barcelona, where around 1200
people (including the scientific sector, families, and affected people) are expected to
attend. It is important for this symposium to reach as many people as possible to continue
improving the research and spreading public awareness on the matter.

The main objectives of this meeting will be focused on:
▪ Offering attendees a quality scientific program, with a broad view on new therapeutic
possibilities for the future (gene and cell therapies, nanomedicine, etc.), in addition to
the review of treatments, updating of clinical trials, and everything related to palliative
care.
▪ Offering a program with a comprehensive and multidisciplinary vision to try to respond
to the most relevant aspects of these syndromes, in order to help affected families to
improve the quality of life of their children.
▪ Providing a place where attendees can meet to discuss, share, and exchange
experiences to advance in the knowledge and the treatment of the MPS and related
diseases. As well as a place where to consult in situ with the best research professionals
and medical specialists.
▪ Offering children/youths and adults affected by MPS the opportunity to strengthen ties,
share experiences and emotions, and generate confidence and self-esteem through a
program of recreational and social activities during the symposium.
▪ Strengthening work networks and collaboration between the different MPS societies
around the world.
▪ Promoting and guarantee at international level the work carried out by the great
professionals and hospitals of our country in the field of lysosomal diseases.
OBJECTIVES
Hesperia Tower Hotel
The Hesperia Tower Hotel is in the new business and
financial district between the airport and the city
center.
Less than 10 minutes away from the airport on taxi, it’s
also connected by a bus service, and the closest
metro station, just five minutes away, takes you
directly to Plaza Cataluña.
The hotel features an extraordinary design and is

CONGRESS VENUE
The Congress facilities of the Hesperia Tower are distributed along three floors, which are
easily accessible from the lobby of the hotel.
The MPS 2020 International Symposium will mostly use the facilities on the ground floor and -
1 Floor. The Exhibition area will be divided in two spaces distributed among both floors.
Given that all the exhibition space will be in a non-restricted area for Patients and Families,
all booth will have to be non-commercial, in order to comply with the industry current
regulations.
However, the meeting rooms on the 1st floor will be available for rent for companies
interested in holding private business meetings on-site. Please refer to the Premium
Corporate Area on this dossier.
