Welcome New Member – LeighAnn Roberts! LeighAnn Roberts was received as a member of First Presbyterian Church by an act of Session after yesterday’s New Members Luncheon. Several others have expressed interested in joining our congregation, but choose to wait until the next opportunity. LeighAnn is Ashley Craddock’s mother (Ashley and her family joined our church earlier this year). LeighAnn lives in Reidsville, and is an endocrinology medical assistant with Cone Health. It is our great pleasure to welcome LeighAnn into the membership of our church, and we look forward to serving our Lord together with her and her family! She will be introduced in worship next Sunday.

Surprise Celebration Next Sunday, 9:50 am Please come to church a little early next Sunday, September 29, and be in the Worship Center by 9:50 am in order to recognize Todd Widel for his 25 years of dedicated service as Manager of the Morehead High School football team upon his retirement this season. Coaches, players, and first responders have been invited to attend, and he will be presented with a plaque in honor of his work, as well as a lifetime pass to all football games. Please keep this a secret … it is meant to be a surprise to Todd. We look forward to seeing everyone in the Worship Center by 9:50 am next Sunday!

CHRISTMAS CANTATA CHOIR COOKOUT – Saturday, September 28 at 6:00 pm! Lisa and Peter Smith invite anyone interested in singing with our Christmas Cantata Choir to their house for a cookout (hamburgers and hot dogs), followed by a fun time of listen to this year’s Christmas Cantata, Canticle of Joy. Speak to Lisa Smith about the cookout and singing with our Cantata Choir. This is a great opportunity to be part of leading Christmas worship without having to make a long-term Choir commitment. Our Christmas Music Sunday this year will be December 15!

We will also introduce our newest church member, LeighAnn Roberts, who joined First Presbyterian Church after yesterday’s New Members Luncheon. The sermon on Sunday will focus on sexual morality as defined by the law of God in Leviticus 20:7-26 and interpreted from our New Testament perspective. We will talk about the gravity of sin and the reality of God’s grace in Jesus Christ, who upholds what we will call “The Goodness of God’s Created Order.” Please invite someone to worship with us! Members and friends of First Presbyterian Church are invited to remain after worship for a time of healing prayer as we lay hands on Mike Corum and ask God to protect him through his upcoming open heart surgery on Friday, October 4. Our “Science with Jesus” children’s program meets Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Children may be dropped off at the end of the education wing.

Pastor’s Bible Study – Wednesdays at 6:00 pm Come and join us for an Introduction to Christian Theology every Wednesday evening at 6:00 in the Parlor. We will discuss major themes for understanding our Christian faith as discerned in the pages of Scripture.

Home Study Groups! Everyone is invited to grow our faith and fellowship together in small groups that meet in peoples’ homes each week. Each group has a different study, but they all share food and fun and fellowship bathed in prayer. Invite a friend!

Tech Booth Volunteers Needed! Every Sunday we rely on a very small group of volunteers to help lead worship by providing audio and video technology support for our worship services. One volunteer controls the slides and videos on the big screen, and another controls the sound board (microphones, volume, sound tracks as needed). Please take a moment to thank our dedicated tech volunteers: Stephen Castle; Scott Flanagan; Shirley Prescott; Larry Robeson; and WC Wrangham. It is not difficult to learn. If the pastor can do it for Celebration Praise Team rehearsals every Thursday evening, anyone can do it! We will provide training. Please speak to Scott Flanagan if you would like to help!

Free Bluegrass/Gospel Music

Concert The Churchmen will play a free Bluegrass/Gospel music concert at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, October 6 at 6:00 pm. They have played at our church before, and currently have a top 10 song on the Gospel music charts. They will also be at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Hall of Fame awards ceremony in September. They tour all over North America, and it will be an honor to have then in our church. Please invite someone to attend! An offering will be received to cover the cost.
