Newsletter! As you probably know, our wonderful adults-only

Newcomer’s Corner: How to Prepare for your First TDW Class

Proper shoes are essential. The best shoes for this

class are split-sole jazz sneakers or jazz slippers,

which can be purchased from dance supply stores

like Releve in Cary or Southeast Dance Shop in

Raleigh. Dancing in socks alone is not allowed.

In addition to proper shoes, the recommended

clothing includes workout or yoga pants, a sports

bra, and a tank top or t-shirt.

These classes require lots of energy, so make sure

you do not come to class hungry. Be sure to bring

your water!

Newcomer’s Corner: What to Expect in Your First Class

You may feel many emotions walking into your first TDW class, especially if you haven’t danced in a while. Rest assured that every new TDW dancer has felt the same way you are feeling! We have all felt anxious, out of shape, excited, and every other emotion! The great news is that TDW is for adults, like you, who just want to dance! Every single one of us stopped dancing (for years) and started back to dance as adults with The Dancer’s Workout® classes. Keep in mind that we are not expected to be perfect in these classes and that this is a safe environment for you to start dancing again!

Here are some helpful tips to get you through your first class!

First-timers should arrive 10 minutes early. Jules and Lisa will greet you and ask you to fill out a brief waiver form. We like to start class right on time so don’t be late!

Stand where you can see yourself in the mirror, and please do not stand directly behind Jules or anyone else. If ballet is not your strong suit, you may want to stand on the sides rather than in center until you become more familiar with the choreography.

Leave your inhibitions at the door! These classes are super fun, safely challenging, very effective at reconditioning your body, and emotionally inspiring! The more classes you take with us, the more you will love them!

During the first 10 minutes of class, Jules will review the choreography you’ll need to know for the class. Pay attention but don’t worry about memorizing everything—you’ll have plenty of time to practice the moves during class.

The most important tip we can give you is to be patient with yourself. It may take a few classes to learn the nuances of the classes and to pick up Jules’ unique style of teaching, but you will pick it up very quickly! Listen to her cues, as this will help!

Work hard but laugh at yourself if you goof up. It’s not a big deal! The most important things are to get a great workout, rediscover the dancer inside you, and make friends!

Q. How do I purchase a package for The Dancer’s Workout® classes and how can I see how many classes I have left on my package? A. Buy a package on our Mindbody website by clicking here. To see the number of classes

left in your package, log into Mindbody here and click on Account.

Q. How do I sign up for the classes I want to take? Do I need to RSVP on Mindbody?

A. Reserve your class spot here. Classes fill up quickly—please RSVP a week in advance when possible. Only your first free class needs to be reserved on Mindbody. For the rest of the classes, simply RSVP on meetup. TDW will keep your Mindbody package up-to-date with your actual attendance.

Q. Is prior dance training required for The Dancer’s Workout® classes? A. Prior training in ballet, jazz, modern, and/or hip-hop is strongly preferred, even if your

training was years ago. You are welcome to come watch a class to determine whether the class is a good fit for you. As you will see, The Dancer’s Workout® is particularly well suited to current and former dancers with prior intermediate- to advanced-level training in ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, and hip-hop though some dancers with experience in other dance genres have done well with persistence and determination.

Over 2300 health clubs, hotels, schools, corporate fitness centers, and apartment complexes now offer The Dancer’s Workout® classes through Fitness on Demand (FOD)! When you travel, you can also search for locations yourself! Simply google your location and “Fitness on Demand” to find a venue. Give them a call to confirm that their FOD system is up-to-date with The Dancer’s Workout classes and ask if they offer a day rate!
