WELCOME!Thank you for your interest in my daycare center.

I was a working mom who wanted the best care for my son.

After visiting many places, I realised the only way I could ensure that

my exacting standards were met was to open my own daycare center.

I set about using my skills and qualifications gained and drew up plans

for a daycare center that would exceed the expectations of even the

most discerning parents.

Cherubs Exclusive baby and toddler daycare is more than just a daycare, itis a place where children have the opportunity to have fun and thrive.

I pride myself on offering:

• A home away from home environment for children aged

from 6 weeks to 4 years old.

• Fun and stimulating activities.

• Separate rooms for different age groups, each packed with toys,

equipment and CCTV camera facilities

• Secure outdoor play areas that offer hours of fun and new challenges.

• Experienced and caring staff all of whom are carefully vetted and

hold valid infant and child First Aid, CPR and Choking certification.

• Confidence in the excellent facilities we provide.

• Highest standards of security.

I believe that happy, content children mean happy content parents. I

would love to show you around at any time so you can see exactly

why we believe I can provide the best possible care for your child.

Yours Sincerely,Marielle Oosthuizen

Infant Program (6 - 12 Months)Maximum 8 per class

We create a nurturing and calming environment in their classroom while making each individual infant’s daily needs their top priority. We are able to achieve a consistent experience between day-care and home care routines for each infant, which is accomplished by our parents and teachers developing relationships with each other that are trusting, healthy, and full of communication.

The environment fostered is one of teacher/infant interaction. Our infant care providers take joy in talking, reading, and singing to your baby. All throughout the day they are stimulating your infant’s physical, cognitive, language, and emotional development by planning activities as well as support your child’s unique, individual needs. From tummy time to pretend play to story time, our goal is to provide your little one with the most optimal learning and growing experiences…all while being loved and taken care of throughout the entire day!We take pride in the care we provide for your child. We go above and beyond other facilities by supplying breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the day when your child is ready to eat table food — ALL included in your monthly cost. Our infant classrooms are furnished with a variety of swings, excersaucers, bumbo seats, bouncers, soft blocks, infant manipulatives, soft toys, books and puppets, and floor mats that play a part in your child’s day of exploring

Detailed reports are provided every day, including informative logs on your baby’s feeding, sleeping, diapering and learning activities. These are meant to supplement the day-to-day verbal communication between our families and teachers. Our desire is for our families to feel perfectly at ease as they entrust their cherished little ones into our care. Our Infant Program cares for babies starting at crawling stage up until 12 months old.

Young Toddlers (12 -18 months)Maximum 10 per class

This younger group of toddlers benefits from an individualized program that still offers a morning and an afternoon nap, providing young toddlers the appropriate rest needed for their development!

Our young toddlers still take a morning and afternoon nap, and are provided with breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the day.!

These new walkers love to explore outdoors and indoors, which they are encouraged to do on our fun and safe enclosed playground. They also are guided in lots of interesting activities.

Our young toddlers move up to the experienced toddlers class when they showcase a mastery in a couple milestones such as taking one nap a day, moving from a bottle to a sippy cup, and show interest in exploring more challenging curriculum activities.

Experienced Toddlers (18-24 months)Maximum 10 per class

Now that they have much more time on their hands, our older toddlers are introduced to more engaging activities throughout the day, additional outdoor play times, and more hands-on arts and craft times.

The Lesson Plan and Daily Schedule for Older Toddlers are packed with exciting activities such as learning centres, circle times, and sensory play to maximize age-appropriate learning development within play.

By now, toddlers enjoy playing together, making friends, and helping each other learn many new skills. They delight in using their imaginations, as well as their energy, with lots of dancing, running, playing, and laughing with their friends. They learn to sit at the table to create art projects and eat their snacks and meals. They love to clap along and actively learn during circle times.

TODDLER PROGRAMME (12 -24 Months)

Our Toddlers classes accommodate children that have turned one, are fully walking, and are able to eat table food. With these new developmental abilities, toddlers are ready to tackle more diverse and stimulating activities!

We prepare hands-on learning activities, accompanied with the rest of our developmentally challenging toddler program curriculum, to help advance your toddler’s social, physical, emotional and intellectual growth. Our loving and nurturing teachers also strive to instil a feeling of autonomy and positive self-concept in each child, encouraging the children to grow in skills such as eating on their own, playing socially and independently, exploring new experiences, and communicating with their friends and teachers! These skills and activities — as well as a full report on your child’s feeding, sleeping, and diapering — are documented daily and act as a supplementary form of communication to the daily face-to-face interaction between parents and teachers. We understand that a personal and communicative relationship with our parents is essential to a child’s success!

We understand that an abundance of change occurs in your child’s second year, so we have two toddler classrooms at our schools for this very reason. And those two classrooms are very unique from each other to cater to toddlers’ growing needs!

Preschool Program (24 Months +)Maximum 10 per class

The 2 – 3 year old Preschool Program is modelled to challenge and build your child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual abilities. Our classroom schedules are filled with fun activities, stimulating art projects, detailed learning centres, and age appropriate curriculum, which all work together to help develop motor skills, self-help skills, encourage learning and develop confidence in each child.

Our Teachers build on our curriculum with hundreds of different learning activities that foster language and communication, creativity and imaginative play, fine and gross motor skill work, cognitive and critical thinking skills, math and science exploration, and personal and social skills, which they work in to our weekly Lesson Plan & Daily Schedule.

Potty training is a very important part of the life of your two-year-old, thus, it is integrated into each of our daily schedules. Our teachers work in connection with our parents to potty train each child.

Daily reports books are still supplied to our parents, as well as oodles of artistic creations that you can use to decorate your refrigerator, walls, and workspace!

Learning – It’s Child’s PlaySafe and Secure

Safe, secure and happy in their surroundings, is what every parent wants for their child.

We aim to gain your child'sconfidence and trust through the highest standard of care possible. Staff are carefully selected and vetted for their suitability, attitude and experience.

Ongoing training programs and a constant drive for improvement ensures that your child receives the highest standard of care possible.

Safety measures include CCTV cameras which record all activities, and parents can log in remotely. We are also based in a boomed off area with minimal traffic. To ensure your child's security only the nominated persons will be able to collect your child.

Learning for Life

Learning for life is about developing your child's senses and learning through first hand experiences. Each and every day your child will be offered a structured and planned program of fun and exciting activities specifically aimed at nurturing the social, physical and emotional skills essential for their development. We will interact with your child and record their observation and thoughts during such activities. Such observations and thoughts will then be shared with you ensuring not only that we meet the needs of your child but also that we meet your expectations of childcare and support. This will promote trust, openness and a positive partnership between us and yourself. Parents are also welcomed and encouraged to call at any time and observe their child engage in an activity.

Supporting Love and Care

All children need supporting love and care. This promotes confidence, trust and independence, all essential traits in the overall development of your child. Such interactions are also encouraged between children as well as between staff as this helps them develop self-esteem and positive relationships with those persons around them. To encourage this I make time to get to know each and every child individually. Drop off times and collection times are encouraged within the daycare to encourage contact and communication between each other. This will also allow your child to feel more relaxed and help encourage a nurturing, gentle, warm and responsive relationship between your child and us.

Feeding and Meals for BabiesBabies aged 6 weeks - 16 weeks

Babies under sixteen weeks of age will only be fed breast or formula milk. We require parents to bring in sterilized bottles with sterilized teats and bottle caps. Bottles are labeled with the child's name, stored in the refrigerator and fed to babies as required in accordance with parent's wishes. Times given and amounts consumed will be recorded on the child's daily activity report. Unused milk is discarded and bottles will be washed and placed with the child's personal belongings. Parents are reminded that empty bottles are not sterilized and they should wash and sterilize them at home before use. If, however, an additional bottle is required to offer cooled boiled water to a child, we will wash and sterilize one of the child's empty bottles.

Babies aged 4 - 7 months

Babies aged 4-7 months will be fed food which is pureed to produce a smooth texture. Foods used will include fruit, vegetables, baby rice and potatoes- all without added salt or sugar. The food is given in small quantities and as a supplement to continued milk feeds. Breast milk or infant formula in bottles will continue to be provided by parents. Parents who wish their child to be fed with pre prepared jars or boxed baby meals will be required to provide them

Babies aged 7- 9 months

Babies in the second stage of weaning will continue to be given similar foods as those in the early stage but additional foods will be introduced and the food will be processed to be a more lumpy consistency and thicker purees used. Soft finger foods will a so gradually be introduced, for example melon, toast fingers and cheese cubes. Parents will continue to supply milk.

Babies aged 10 - 12 months

Food for babies at this stage will be the same as that served to the older children but will be mashed to a lumpy consistency. Finger foods will be fully introduced at this stage, for example, sandwiches and plain breadsticks. Parents will continue to provide milk.

Toddlers over 12 months

At this stage, the children's food is served chopped rather than blended and they will have finger food at snack times. Children will be encouraged to learn to feed themselves. Parents will continue to provide milk for bottles.

These stages of weaning are general guidelines but can be adapted to suit individual children's needs. Parents with specific wishes in relation to their child's food should discuss them with us in the baby unit who will record details in the child's records and communicate them to other staff.

Foods which we avoid

In addition to meat products we avoid serving foods containing gluten, eggs, soft cheese, citrus fruits, foods containing nuts and foods with added sugar or salt, to babies under 6 months .

In addition to meat products, we avoid serving soft cheese, eggs, honey, foods containing nuts and foods with added sugar or salt to children under 12 months. The weekly menu will be on display in the entrance . If there are any food which you do not wish your baby to eat, pleaselet us know. We will always have an alternative available to give your child.

Also noteWe will record all that your baby has eaten on their daily report and let you know if there is something they particularly enjoy or seem to dislike. We will also inform you of their progress in learning to feed themselves..

And finallyPlease feel free to discuss this information and any other matters relating to feeding your child with me.

Emergency Procedure

In case a child will need to be transported to a near hospital the following procedure will be applied:

We will immediately call the emergency contact number and be on the phone until help arrives. I will go with the child in the ambulance (child’s file will be taken) and remain with the child. I will be contacting the parents by phone. If parents cannot be reached immediately an emergency contact, provided by the parents upon enrollment, will be contact. I will keep trying to contact the parents until reached.

First Aid Equipment:First Aid equipment will be kept in the office out of reach of the children. A sign will be posted in each room indicating location of the First Aid Kit. The Equipment will be checked periodically . All staff members are trained in infants and children’s First Aid, CPR and Choking.

Injury Prevention:All the cleaning supplies will be locked in a safe cabinet away from the reach of the children. The refrigerator at the center will have a safety lock in case medications need to be refrigerated. All medications will have the child’s name written clearly on the container.I check all rooms daily for any hazards and remove anything that can be harmful to a child (broken toys, plug covers etc.).An injury log will be posted at the center with date, name, time, description of injury and any first aid administered to a child. Should first aid be administered the injury report will be complete and the parents will also be asked to sign. A copy will be provided to the parents and the original will be kept in the child’s file.Staff will report any and all injuries (even the minimum). I will decide if the parents need to be contacted immediately.

Emergency Evacuation

Procedure for evacuation will be posted in the center. All staff will be trained during orientation time how to follow the evacuation route. We will provide each classroom with a clip board with all the children’s names enrolled at the center. In case of evacuation, staff must bring the clip board to the designated location.

During evacuation the following procedure will be applied: Infants will be strolled out of the center. Toddlers and Preschoolers will walk to designate location in a line. A staff member will be in front and another at the end to make sure that all the children are safe. We will take head count when arriving to the designated location. I will then do one last walk through to make sure no one is left behind.

A fire drill will take place every month. A fire drill log will be posted at the center with the date and time of the evacuation and duration. Fire extinguishers are accessible to all staff and serviced regularly.

In case of Emergency

Page 16: WELCOME! - allthingskids.co.za€¦ · The 2 –3 year old Preschool Program is modelled to challenge and build your child’s social, emotional, ... Cross Curricular Thematic Curriculum

• All students are screened in one day, usually the first day of the term.

• Certificates for both infested and clear children are issued to each child.

• School is advised which children have lice infestations and we are able to contact parents.

• Children may only return to school with a clearance certificate.

• A new comb is used for each child and surgical gloves are used for screenings.

• The screening is discreet – The Nit-pickers team does not reveal any lice infestations to any children, these are treated in the manner that each school decides they would like it done.

• Should parents of infested children decide they would like to treat their children at home, a free follow up screening is awarded to them for issue of a clearance certificate.

Nit-pickers Partnership Information

In order to prevent outbreaks of lice infestation, common to all schools, the pupils and teachers of Cherubs undergo a termly compulsory lice check by the Nit-pickers team.

We have now partnered with Nit-pickers which has resulted in:

• A better rate of R15 per child (parents pay). • The school receives R1 back towards fundraising per child

screened.• A free parent screening (in salon) for children found to have live

lice. • A free follow up check, in salon, for persons treated by nit-

pickers to confirm eradication of lice.• A 10% discount voucher for all children towards treatment or

purchase of preventative products from Nit-pickers.

Health Care Policy. Infection Control

All staff wash their hands with liquid soap and running water at the following times:• Before eating or handling food• After changing a nappy or toileting• After coming in contact with bodily fluids

All surfaces will be washed with soap and water and disinfected after each used. The disinfectant will be a self-made bleach solution 1:10 stored in a spray bottle and kept out of reach of the children. In case body fluids are spilled on floors the area will immediately disinfected with bleach and water. Once a week the entire facility is disinfected by a company called Janpro bringing infection count down to 0% each and every week.

All areas are disinfected after departure of children daily.

Used nappies, wet wipes etc. will be thrown in a lined, covered container and all staff members will wash their hands with soap and water after handling bodily fluids or blood. All worn clothing will be sealed in plastic bags and returned to the parent at the end of the day.We will hold training in infection control once per year. center file.

Sick Children Policy

Infection spreads very quickly in a daycare. To minimize the risk of spreading infection certain guidelines should be followed:

CHILDREN MUST NOT COME TO THE DAYCARE WITHIN FORTY EIGHT HOURS OF SICKNESS OR DIARRHOEA AND PARENTS/CARERS SHOULD NOTIFY US OF ANY SUCH CASES IMMEDIATELY.

Children who are unwell with an infection including coughs or colds should not attend unless the child has been given the O.K by a medical doctor. Parents should inform us of any infection that their child is suffering from as soon as possible. We have to report any modifiable disease, such as e-coli, meningitis etc., to the Health Visitor.Parents should be aware of the risk to pregnant mothers of diseases such as Rubella (German Measles) and Slap Cheek etc.If a child becomes unwell during the day, we will contact the child’s parent and request that they collect the child. (Contact information is kept in the office.) Sick children will be isolated and cared for by staff .

A copy of each child’s immunization history should be included on registration cards.

Good hygiene procedures should always be followed at home and in the center.

It is advised that parents give their child a immune support supplement like “Crèche guard” or similar to boost immunity to colds and flu’s.

We will only administer medicines if there is a health reason to do so. Medicines will only ever be given with prior written consent from parents.

One of our aims is to provide childcare services which run smoothly and flexibly and we understand when late collections or early starts for children are unavoidable. With this in mind we have implemented an early morning / late afternoon aftercare service.

This is a system widely used by child care providers and will be available to accommodate your needs as they arise, however, please inform us in advance if you anticipate the need for early drop off and/or late pick up. This will allow us to arrange sufficient staff in advance as well as ensure appropriate supervision and care for your child.

Early drop off starts at 6:00am, and late pick up ends 6:30pm. This service will be set at R100.00 for every hour or part thereof that the aftercare facility is utilized.

This is to cover overtime for staff starting work early or staying later than their usual working hours. Should a child be dropped off early or left beyond the normal operating hours (6:00am to 18:00pm full day) without prior arrangements, a fee will be set at R200.00 per hour or part thereof.
