Day-Care & Preschools.Good preschools fill up quickly and maintain waiting lists. They generally register for the September school year very early. January sign-up for returning students and their younger siblings (and church members for those affiliated with one) is typical, with February sign-up for the general public. If the one you want is full, ask to be put on a waiting list. Also consider signing up for several even if you expect to get into the one you think you want. Most offer several different programs (e.g., two, three, or five days a week) and they may not offer you the choice you want.ABC Preschool-Daycare 296-1116925 E. Medical Treatment

TRICARE Prime Remote.Charlottesville does not have local access to a major treatment facility like you are probably accustomed to. While assigned to TJAGLCS, you will receive all medical care via TRICARE Prime Remote. You have the ability to pick your civilian Primary Care Manager (PCM) from a long list of TRICARE approved doctors. The list will be made available to you when you arrive and fill out the application during in-processing or you can check out TRICARE’s website www.mytricare.com or call them at 877-874-2273. Additionally, you will find a list of all network providers that provide specialty care - just remember that you’ll need a referral from your PCM and TRICARE before seeing them.

Prescriptions are free for all active duty service members. All you will need is your military ID card and prescription. For family members, there is a $3 co-pay for generic drugs and $9 for name brand prescriptions. You can get these filled at a variety of locations to include: Walgreens, Target, Sam’s Club, CVS, and Rite-Aid.

Dental Care – United Concordia.Dental care is also a little different on our island. You will receive treatment thru a civilian dentist from United Concordia approved dentists. We will provide you a list when you arrive or visit their website at www.add-ucci.com or call them at 1-866-984-2337. Upon your arrival, we will go over with you the detailed steps to set-up an appointment thru United Concordia.

Athletics.TJAGLCS has a small gym room with some cardio, free weights, and machines on-site. However, we have a contract with Gold’s Gym (about 5 min away) which allows all staff and faculty and their families to have access free of charge. We are allocated 50 slots per day. All you need to do is bring your military ID card or your military dependant card to the gym and sign-in. There is childcare on site, but you must pay for this option out of your pocket.

Since TJAGLCS is located on the University of Virginia campus, we have an agreement with UVA which allows our faculty and family members to have access to their numerous athletic facilities. You will have to pay for the membership ($345/year) – the same as UVA faculty. See the G1 section for more information and the memorandum to present to UVA.

Youth Activities. There are many activities for children in the Charlottesville area. The graduate course runs a soccer program for children ages 2 through 12 years of age twice a year (Fall and Spring). For additional information on youth activities just Google “youth activities in Charlottesville”.
