May I use grape juice for the Four Cups at the Seder?
For the second, third and fourth cup, wine is preferable because it is considered more prestigious, and because its alcohol is said to bring joy. However, the exclusion of grape juice as "not prestigious" is uncertain. Further, Rambam writes that one should use a drink that is "sweet to him." Therefore, one who has difficulty tolerating wine may use grape juice.
There is an extra reason to use wine for the first cup, because this cup also fulfills the mitzvah of kiddush, and some rule that grape juice is not acceptable for the evening kiddush. Kiddush requires wine which is eligible for pouring on the mizbeiach in the Beis haMikdash, and there are grounds for disqualifying grape juice from that role. However, many halachic authorities still state that one who cannot use wine may use grape juice for kiddush, and therefore for the first cup.
It would be ideal to mix in a little bit of wine, sufficient to give the wine an alcoholic "edge", to mitigate some of the halachic concerns.

QUESTIONS FOR PARSHAS VAYAKHEL‐PEKUDEI BY: THE RAV
First Aliyah: (35:1) Why does the Torah detail that Moshe gathered the people instead of simply saying, as it normally would, that he spoke to the people? Second Aliyah: (35:34) What was the difference between Betzalel and Oholiav by way of their imbued spirit of Hashem and wisdom? Third Aliyah: (37:29) Why is the manufacturing of the incense altar and the incense interrupted by the manufacture of the anointing oil? Fourth Aliyah: (38:1) Why did Betzalel build the regular altar after the incense altar, especially if the regular altar was commanded to be built first (in 27:1)? Fifth Aliyah: (39:21) Why couldn’t the Choshen move from off the Ephod? Sixth Aliyah: (39:32) Why does the Torah have to make a point of saying that they finished all the work? Seventh Aliyah: (40:1) Why does the Torah make a point of saying that the Mishkan needed to
be built on 1 Nissan both here and again in 40:17?

Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg (lovingly known by thousands of children as Rabbi G.), is the founder and director of Kids Kicking Cancer, a nonprofit organization that teaches martial arts to children battling cancer as well as to those facing other serious challenges in their lives. The therapy techniques he has developed, using meditation and breathing exercises, have been very successful in decreasing the pain of paediatric patients. Rabbi Goldberg began the program in 1999, nearly eighteen years after losing his first child to leukemia. He holds a First Degree Black Belt in the Korean art of Choi Kwang Do as well as a clinical assistant professorship in paediatrics at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.
Rabbi Goldberg received his rabbinical ordination from Yeshiva University, where he also graduated summa cum laude. He served for twenty years as a pulpit rabbi and police chaplain in Southfield, Michigan. He now lectures around the world on the subjects of paediatric pain and end of life care as well as issues of spirituality and health, and has expanded Kids Kicking Cancer to Canada, Italy, and Israel.
Rabbi G. and his wife, Ruthie, have two married children and eight grandchildren.
