In these days human life is becoming more and more valuable. Accidents are increasing day by day. Driver pre-occupation continues to increaseThis has lead to many revolutionary strides in automotive technology.A critical intervention is a MCU-based SMART braking system.

Page 4: WELCOME TO ALL PACE INSTITUTIONS and INTEGRATORS

Automatic braking system using sensors is a highly sensitive braking system which works in coordination with existing braking system. This makes use of sensor arrays, signal conditioners, amplifiers, actuators & micro controller unit.

Sensor arrays

Page 7: WELCOME TO ALL PACE INSTITUTIONS and INTEGRATORS

• Three sensor arrays, capable of tilt and pan are placed at the front & rear bottom ends of the vehicle .

• The range of these sensor arrays would depend on maximum braking distance

Sensor data would be processed for humps, depressions, approaching vehicles or any static or dynamic obstacles, road curvatures, etc

• The conditioned and amplified signals are received by the microcontroller.

Page 8: WELCOME TO ALL PACE INSTITUTIONS and INTEGRATORS

• The MCU processes these signals from the sensor arrays to decide whether to:– Decelerate the vehicle– Brake the vehicle or– Simply warn the driver– Or perform a hybrid action of all the above

Page 9: WELCOME TO ALL PACE INSTITUTIONS and INTEGRATORS

Sensor arrays fitted at the rear of the vehicle will

work in tandem with the sensors in the front. The pan and tilt of the sensor arrays is also

controlled by a Cam-MCU operation

Page 10: WELCOME TO ALL PACE INSTITUTIONS and INTEGRATORS

• ADDITIONAL FEATURES: the brakes are made to apply gradually so that the speed of vehicle is reduced to less than half of its original speed in a very short time.

• By this, within the range of distance between two vehicles automatic braking is applied & time is obtained for the driver to turn the power steering to avoid the accident.

• A WARNING SIGNAL system may also be fitted along with this, so that the driver becomes conscious about the danger.

Page 11: WELCOME TO ALL PACE INSTITUTIONS and INTEGRATORS

• The array ranges are so designed that vehicle can be slowed down during humps.

• This can be a rotating sensor.

Perceived Merits

1. Designed to work with electronic ABS systems.

2. A hybrid dynamic system of braking acting on deceleration as well as on brakes

3.Wear and tear significantly reduced on all moving portions of the vehicle

4. Significantly increases mileage in Indian road & traffic conditions

5. Obvious advantages on highways

Page 13: WELCOME TO ALL PACE INSTITUTIONS and INTEGRATORS

Example

• According to standard tests, a fatigued driver travelling at the rate of 60 km/h will traverse a distance of 52 m before stopping as the reaction time of the said driver is generally more than 2 seconds

• With the proposed braking system, the vehicle decelerates automatically at a faster rate resulting in lesser damage and in an accident free scenario.

Tasks and Challenges - each in semi-design stage

• Mechanical– Design of sensor array geometry– Cam mechanism for sensor pan and tilt– Modification of accelerating and braking

mechanism• Electronics

– Design of range sensor arrays– Design of signal conditioners, amplifiers and

MUX– Design of input and output drivers– Design of MCU – hardware & software
