At the end of the 1980’s, the Berlin Wall came down. To many of the “Baby

Boomers” it was hard to conceive a time when there

would be an access from West Germany to the East, free of barriers. This was a time of great jubilation, not only in Germany, but in all of the free world. However, the wall may have gone down, but the East Germans were “free” in an elusive sense. Their freedom had more to do with access to a cultural market rather than a cultivating Maker.Today, the word “freedom” is trapped in semantics. When we consider what our forefathers sought as “freedom,” it was the right to pursue their own destiny; “freedom” meant self-determination. Today, the word “freedom” has been defined as the right to lasciviousness. Even the Soviet leadership banned western influence because of its decadence. Yet, their godless culture only caused people to fill one empty hole with another. In John 8, Jesus proclaimed Himself as the Light (v.12), but His audience was so culturally biased that they would not comprehend anything outside of their darkened understanding. They were blinded by a barrier of sin far stronger and more secure than the Berlin Wall could ever be. However, Jesus still told them how to tear it down!“If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” V.33Unfortunately, no light bulbs came on. “We’ve never been slaves!” they responded.Let’s face it, we often get reality wrong. It doesn’t matter how we define our existence or deny our present state, Paul tells us we are slaves to the one we obey. (Romans 6:16) We can be slaves to sin or slaves to righteousness; it’s our choice. When we came to know Christ, He didn’t break down a wall just so we would end up in a different cell in the same prison. Psalm 146:7 states that “He gives freedom to the prisoners.” If the Son has made you free, you are free indeed; we have the ability to determine our allegiance. We have the ability to defy sin; we have self-determination.Walls are only made from concrete and rebar, but nothing is as impenetrable as sin. The Good News is, if we abide in the Word of Christ, we will never be trapped behind it.

" Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." Galatians 5:1

doN’t worry, god’S beSt iS yourSThemeThis life is temporary. Believers should never worry about material possessions. God has promised us His best.

Scripture ReadingGenesis 45:16-21 “And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, Joseph’s brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan; And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land. Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is your’s. And the children of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way.”

Relating to the ScriptureIn the story of Joseph, we remember that he was sold into Egyptian slavery by his brothers, but God blessed him and he became the second in authority in all of Egypt.

During famine, Joseph’s brothers came from Canaan to buy food. Joseph, forgiving his brothers, gave them plenty and sent them back to Canaan to bring their entire family back to Egypt where they would live out the famine in prosperity and abundance. Pharaoh, the leader of Egypt and Joseph’s friend, assures them in verse 20, “regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.” Not only were they to be provided for their return to Egypt, but Pharaoh also gave them provisions for the return trip (v21).

Many times while making our living here on earth, we sometime forget that the “stuff” that is so important now, will one day be left behind. As believers, we are not to spend our lives worrying about material possessions. For God, who blesses greater than any Egyptian Pharaoh, has promised all of Heaven for us. Like Pharaoh, but in a much greater way, He promises to provide for us all during life’s journey from earth to glory.

Offering Admonition/ConfessionWe give today without regard to our “stuff,” but in obedience to God’s Word. After this life there is Heaven, and on this earth, provision blessing for a lifetime.

Remember Why You Were Created

Introduction: If it was not for God, nothing we know now would exist. We would not exist. It was God who created the heavens, earth, and us.Gen. 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (NKJ)Gen. 1:26 “Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness”; (NKJ)

How do we worship God? A practical example is given to us in:

Matt. 2:1-2 “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him." (NKJ)
