WENTWORTH PARK The box draw for the Group 3 Chairman’s Cup on Saturday (September 13) has thrown the market open, with pre series favourites Xylia Allen and Sweet It Is both drawing awkwardly. Greyhounds highest stake earner, Xylia Allen, didn’t disappoint her fans, jumping well from box six in the opening heat. Leading all the way to knock out sections of 5.31, 15.98, 29.19 the recently crowned Australian Greyhound of the Year stopped the clock at 41.76, just two tenths outside her track record. In the second heat, Sweet It Is was the dominant favourite, but it was Zipping Maggie for Peter Dapiran which upset the show, leading all the way and postings a 42.00 overall time to qualify for next Saturday’s $25,000 to the winner Final. Race favourite, Sweet It Is, rattled home for second position, while Liara Allen held on for third. Next Saturday’s $25,000 to the winner final shapes as an interesting event with Xylia Allen and Sweet It Is draw side by side, and early pace drawn under the two multiple group winners. Box draw for the 2014 Group 3 Chairman’s Cup is:

BULLI
It was an interesting card at Bulli last Wednesday with a wide variety of races. The feature 1-4 Win final over the 400 was highly anticipated & lived up to expectations with Aussie Quoted for Ian Morgan & Spring Missile for Christine Oldfield staging a memorable battle. Both greyhounds came together up front as soon as they jumped & in a see sawing dual Aussie Quoted stuck his head out on the line to prevail. Both finals from heats at Goulburn & Lithgow were decided with the Class of the Mark Wilcox trained Buster Shiraz securing the Goulburn Final & the William Mulligan prepared Turtle Man clearing out for a commanding win in the Lithgow final. Two heats of the South Coast challenge were conducted with the 1st 2 from each heat to run off in the final at Dapto on Megastar night against the qualifiers from Nowra. Ellie Mac Lee for Judith Fisher secured the opening heat while the up & comer Whittaker for Julie Fletcher aced the second run off. They will be joined by 2nd placegetters in each heat Garrdice & Boss Electro in the final at Dapto. In other results likable character Cliff Bell booted home the Maiden 400m winner Fast Country while Mark Gatt produced the quinella in the 472m Maiden with Encapsulate holding off kennel mate Bronx’s Warrior. Spring Murder gave punters a few anxious moments before finding the line for Arrol Glynn. Two heats of the AAA Radiators series rounded off the race meeting with heat winners Breeze Magic for Charles Bolton & the nicely named Bunny Burgess for Anthony Hardaker. Double to Louise Magee
At the Wednesday September 3 meeting trainer Louise Magee notched up a double with
Captain Jess winner of a 400m maiden heat in a slick 22.66 and Nipper’s Babe winner of a
400m grade 5 in 23.17. Louise owns both these greyhounds. Congratulations to Louise on
her double.
Louise returned to Maitland on the Thursday to record an outstanding win with Silver Steel
to win a heat of the Morpeth Heritage Spring Cup grade 4/5 over the 450m in a very smart
25.35 as the $4.30 second elect defeating another smart one in Nicholas’ Clifton’s All Irish
($2.10 fav) by ¾ length. This was the fastest of the three heats of this series.
Louise is a staunch supporter of the Maitland, Newcastle and Gosford tracks and has a great
strike rate with her greyhounds at these tracks.
Linda Henderson Has a Smart One!
Linda has three from her June 2012 Cosmic Rumble x Magic Medusa litter racing and all are
very promising. At the Wednesday September 3 meeting a very smart one from this litter,
the fawn dog, Medusa Gold easily won a 450m grade 5 at $1.50 favourite in a very smart
25.28 to bring up the greyhound’s second win from four starts (plus a third). The winning
margin was an ever increasing 3.5 lengths. Linda was all smiles after the win and gave credit
to her trainer Robert Smith for presenting her greyhound in such superb order.
The week earlier Linda won with another smart one from the litter, namely Gralin which is
prepared for her by Beau Hedley, who also prepares the third one from the litter, Medusa’s
Me Mum which goes around in the first heat of the Macro Meats $10,000 to the winner
520m maiden series at Wenty on Monday next September 8 (race 1 box 5). The future looks
bright for Linda with these three promising gallopers.
Treble to Mark Wilcox
Mark Wilcox brought 3 to race at the Maitland Thursday meeting September 4 and went
home delighted with three winners, all very impressive. Highly Respected won a heat of the
Morpeth Heritage Spring Cup grade 4/5 over the 450m in 25.45 as the $2.00 favourite
defeating another very talented performer , the Ryan Tredway trained Kicking Rocks which
ran on very stoutly just failing to overhaul Highly Respected by a neck as the $2.70 elect.
(Michelle Shambler won the third heat of this grade 4/5 series with Interrogated as the
$3.90 second elect behind $2.50 favourite Altered Crusher for Johnny Sledzianowski. It will
be a great final at the track at Maitland Thursday next week).
Mark’s other winners were the prolific winners Natural Player which showed its versatility by
winning a 400m FFA in a slick 22.23 after winning its previous 3 starts at Goulburn and
Maitland over the 457m and 450m in very smart times, and Knocka’s Return, the 565m
record holder at the track (31.55 14/8/14) which won again over that distance in a grade 5 in
31.68 – not unexpectedly Knocka’s Return went out a short ($1.20) favourite.

Adam Wade’s Most Promising Greyhound Makes Successful Comeback
On Thursday, the Maitland Supporters Club Father’s Day Final over the 400m was won by a
dog which Kings Langley trainer Adam Wade says is the fastest he has ever had, namely Peta
Pitstop, which led and won easily as the $2.80 second favourite in a slick 22.54. The favourite
at $2.40, the talented La Grand Logie, undefeated in 3 previous starts for Jilliby owner trainer
Jeff Easton ran third , with Cheryl Murray’s smart performer Sandy Freckle (first res from box
1) splitting the other two.
Adam said Peta Pitstock has come back from a nasty hock fracture requiring a long time in
plaster and 7 months away from the races to record two very good wins – before the break
the greyhound has notched up back to back wins in smart times over 450m at Maitland and
Bathurst.
Adam said he was absolutely delighted at the way the greyhound had recovered from what
could have been a career ending injury – “the fastest dog I have ever trained” he quipped!!
Congratulations to Adam on the win and the fine job he has done in bringing back the
greyhound from such a severe injury.
The accompanying photo, courtesy of Steve Whalland Race Images, shows a delighted Adam
Wade at the presentation ceremony conducted after this feature race.
Finally, we extend a big thank you to the hard working members of the Maitland Supporters
Club for their continued support with their fundraising towards regular race sponsorships at
Maitland – a big thank you to Margaret Enright, Denise Hill and Barbara Rees for all the hard
work they put in, including conducting the trainers’ jackpot dog each week.
