The ability to pass the Biology EOC!! Preparation for future science classes (at high school or collegiate level)

What materials do I need for this class? Dry erase Markers 2 ½ ” - 3” 3-ringed binder with loose leafed paper Tab Dividers (10-15) Post-it notes 1 package of 50-100 standard size notecards Writing utensils w/ erasers

Pencils Colored pens

1 vinyl folder (hole-punched) Reference folder (syllabus, lab safety contract, list of 80

standards to be covered). MAY want page protectors

What do I do if I need to leave class? Hall Passes = 3 per semester If you need to leave class for any reason

including: Restroom, nurse, office, locker Complete the back of the hall pass (i.e. Name,

Date, Reason for leaving class) Politely ask teacher to sign the back QUIETLY exit classroom, and return promptly Place into designated place on back bulletin

board

What do I do if I’m absent? Check the folder of the day(s) you were

absent. Located on the back bulletin board.

Lot” Will be discussed at a later time.

Notebook All student work (Notes, worksheets, etc.) will be

kept in a 3-ringed binger. Notebooks must be in order; each page should be

labeled with corresponding number on table of contents. (List on side board)

A table of contents will be made for each unit and placed in the front of that unit.

Notebook should be kept to review for the final COMPREHENSIVE exam (EOC) If ALL units are kept and in order at end of year, 3 %

points will be added to your overall grade. Notebooks will be checked on Study Guide

Days If not submitted, student may NOT take exam!!!

20 points will be deducted from notebook grade for every day that it is late.

Homework & Grading Attendance/Absences/Makeup Work: According to school policy,

you must make up, within one week, tests, quizzes, and laboratory work missed due to excused absences. Homework assigned prior to an absence must be turned in the day you return, and homework assigned during your absence the day after you return, unless I extend the deadline because of unusual circumstances.

Homework (formative assessment) Policy: Assignments are to be neatly completed on appropriate paper. Late work will receive only partial credit.

In order to ensure that you have the opportunity to be successful on each summative exam, you will NOT be permitted to take the exam if you have any 0’s in the gradebook.

Grade Distribution: 20% Final exam 10% Formative Assignments 70% Summative Assessments

Grading: Summative Exams

STANDARDS-BASED GRADING! 70% of your final grade will come from scores on

80 learning targets covered in Biology Unit exams will be divided into learning targets

For Example: a unit exam over Ecology will include 12 individual exam scores b/c it assesses you on 12 different learning targets

How many points is this SINGLE exam worth?

How is your grade determined? Based upon # of correct responses

4= 100% 3=75% 2=50% 1=25%

Grading: Summative Exams Re-testing: Students may retest ONCE over

any standard and the highest score will be recorded. In order to retest, students must complete all

assignments for the unit and any additional assignments deemed necessary by the instructor.

Re-tests forms may vary (oral, written essay, multiple choice, etc…)

Extra Credit Complete Notebook at the end of

year = 3 pts added to overall grade You must have received 100% for EACH

UNIT (i.e. MUST be complete, and ON TIME)
