Dedicated to the Introduction and Promotion of the American Serama

Goal of the ASA

The goal of the American Serama Association (ASA) is to promote the American Serama in accordance with a “standard of perfection” and to encourage its development to gain both American Bantam Association (ABA) and American Poultry Association (APA)

acceptance, and improvement in all of its varieties and colors, through breeding, exhibition, and the sharing of information. With this goal in mind, a group of the top Serama breeders and exhibitors in the United States, each with years of experience in breeding and

showing Serama, founded the American Serama Association in 2012. The ASA offers many opportunities for its members to become involved and also provides exhibition sanctioning, local and state club

sanctioning, table top judging license certification, and yearly awards.

Member Benefits By joining the ASA, you gain access to the best of the best, including the top Serama breeders, exhibitioners, judges, and other Serama

enthusiasts with years of experience in showing, breeding, and raising Serama for exhibition and fun. ASA offers a friendly and easy to use forum for access to educational materials and posting of questions related to the breed, in

addition to the latest news in showing across the country. Information on Serama health, genetics, color projects, feeding, disease prevention, standards, breeding, incubating and hatching can be found. State and district representatives are available in all areas of

the United States to discuss any topic concerning the Serama.

The ASA forum offers a special youth section in addition to a youth committee that is dedicated to assisting, planning, and promoting activities and awards for ASA youth. Experienced ASA youth are available on the forum to discuss activities and respond to questions

regarding Serama breeding and showing.

Whether you are showing, breeding, or enjoying Serama as pets, the ASA has something to offer those of every age.

Youth Showmanship Competition

• The showmanship competition is open to all youth 18 and under, and sanctioned by the APA-ABA Youth Club. We encourage all youth to participate in Showmanship, including those who are involved in 4H and FFA. Go to the APA-ABA Youth Program website for general information about Showmanship. Contestants are judged on poultry knowledge, handling skills, appearance of the bird and attitude and appearance of the show person. Youth Director Carol Straight is in charge of Showmanship Competition.

• The Michigan Poultry Fanciers is offering awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each level of competition. Categories are Novice (7 and under), Junior (8 – 10), Intermediate (11 – 13) and Senior (14 – 18). Ages listed are the usual ages for each category, however, the Youth Director reserves the right to assign competitor categories at her discretion, in an attempt to balance class sizes.

• There is a $3 Showmanship fee. • Please pre-register by filling out the Entry Form, checking the showmanship box and entering your age. • You do not have to be a show exhibitor to compete in Showmanship. If you do not want your bird judged in its cage,

please do not list the bird on the Entry Form. "Showmanship-only" birds will be provided cages near the Showmanship competition.

• It is strongly recommended that birds that ARE entered for show exhibition not be used for Showmanship. The bird will not be judged (in the exhibition show) if it is absent from its assigned exhibition cage when the exhibition show judge arrives to judge the variety.

• MPF will provide feed and water - participants must care for their own birds. • Please note the health requirements listed in the show rules.

Special Club Meets

More information on the individual meets is available upon request. For information about having Michigan Poultry Fanciers host your breed club’s National Meet, contact club president Kim Aldrich.

Backyard Class – New this Year!

We will be holding a Backyard Class this year. Entries will be

judged based on condition, personality, and beauty. Cash prizes

will be based on the number of entries in the class. To enter, simply

indicate “Backyard” on the entry form and the number of birds that

you are entering. Entries will also be accepted on the day of the show.
