ACADEMICS Monday, August 21 1:30 pm - 4:00 pmOpen advising period for new students

Questions about the open advising period? Contact:

Abbey Nash, Head of Advising [email protected] Pendleton Hall Room 21

Academic AdvisingOur advising program is part of the personalized educational experience you’ll find at Bryn Athyn College. Our advisors do more than just sign off on your course registration. They take their role as advisor seriously and will take time to get to know you, your strengths, your academic and career goals, and even your life outside the classroom. You’ll meet regularly one-on-one with your advisor, who will ask questions, offer suggestions, and challenge you to explore your potential. By working with your advisor and participating in First Year Seminar, a one credit course designed to increase your self-awareness and personal success, you will have the opportunity to explore the variety of majors offered at Bryn Athyn College and to discover the many resources available to help support your collegiate success.

Academic WorkloadThe full-time academic load per term is a minimum of nine and a maximum of 14.5 credits. Students may register for up to three credits above a full-time load (up to 17.5 credits), but must pay for these additional credits at the part time tuition rate. To graduate in four years, students should average at least 10.33 credits per term and 31 credits per year. To be eligible for Dean’s List honors, students must register for at least 11 academic credits and earn a GPA of at least 3.5 per term in graded coursework. Many of our students take 11-13 credits per term.

Choosing a Major “What are you majoring in?” That’s a question that students hear frequently. It’s nice to have a quick and easy answer to that question, but often times it is helpful to let that question remain unanswered for the first term or even the first four terms of college. Until you have a chance to experience a variety of academic fields, you may not have a good idea of which of these fields interest you most. While it is a good idea to take a goal-oriented approach to your education, these

goals do not need to be major specific during your first year of college. Work with your advisor to explore all of your options before settling on a particular major. Thursday October 12th is an in-service day for the whole college featuring majors and career workshops..

ACE Program Academic Career Excellence (ACE) helps students develop research, writing, math, and science skills. The supported study sessions promote good study habits. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the ACE Program’s various offerings. Have questions about ACE? Contact the ACE Coordinator, Ann Buss at 215.510.0069 or [email protected].

Policies on Accommodations for Learning Disabilities, Office of Student Support ServicesThe Office of Disability Resources at Bryn Athyn College helps to ensure equal educational access and opportunity for all members of our community. Members of the ODR staff work individually with each student to understand his or her strengths and limitations in order to develop the most effective and comprehensive accommodation plan.

In addition to working in a direct service capacity with our students, the Office of Disability Resources also collaborates with administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure the facilitation of reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Bryn Athyn College will assist qualified persons in achieving access to its programs, services, and facilities. Documentation must be submitted to the ODR and an intake appointment must be conducted to develop an accommodation plan directly with the student in accordance with Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

At the end of each term, books are bought back at half price if they are being used again that same year. Books for classes being taught every other year will not be bought back, nor will any packets that are compiled by professors. Books can be returned for full price during the add/drop period and only if students drop a class and bring a copy of their new schedules with them, and the book is in good condition. Any questions about the Bookstore should be directed to Eden Zecher: [email protected] | 267-502- 2612.

College Grounds CaféFor long days or early mornings, most Bryn Athyn students find some part of their day to visit the College Grounds Café, centrally located in the Swedenborg Library. It’s debatable whether the café is better suited for studying or socializing, but with the full line of Starbucks drinks served it can be assured that College Grounds is buzzing just a little more than any other spot on campus.

FINANCIAL SERVICES The Office of Financial Aid at Bryn Athyn is committed to serving and educating the student body on all things financial aid and financial literacy. The office serves as a resource for students year round so we encourage you to take advantage. Since we hope to have you for the next four years, it’s important to remember that financial aid is a process that you will apply for each year separately while you are here.

In addition to completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually, we also encourage you to seek out additional aid possibilities such as private scholarships in order to keep loan debt levels at a minimum.

By this time we hope you have completed all necessary requirements in order to receive your financial aid for this upcoming year. If you haven’t already done so, we ask that you please turn in any requested documentation as failure to do so can prevent aid from paying toward your account.

For only those selected for Verification, this could include Tax Transcripts, W2’s, and the Verification Worksheet. Students interested in utilizing Federal Direct Loans should visit: www.studentloans.gov and complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling.

In addition to the MPN and Entrance Counseling, we also require students to submit an Aid Acceptance Form. This form is sent out annually and confirms your interest in accepting, reducing or declining your Federal Direct Loan awards.
