HEAVEN=COLLEGE

Only way to success is to go to college

Only 32% will earn a postsecondary degree or credential within 6 years of graduating from high school

Only 40% of Americans earn an associate’s or bachelor’s degree by age 27

By the year 2018 55% OF JOBS IN INDIANA WILL REQUIRE POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION

Only 1/3 of those jobs in Indiana will require a 4 year degree

Over 1/3 of jobs in Indiana will require postsecondary work with less than a 4 year degree

WHEN WE INSIST ALL STUDENTS GO TO A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE, TOO MANY GET LOST ALONG THE WAY. WILLIAM C. SYMONDS

WHERE ARE THE REST OF “THEM” GOING?

“College for All” needs to be broadened to mean a meaningful “post-high school credential” for all or

A meaningful credential can be earned in many ways:

Community colleges/ Technical College with 2 year associates degrees or working to get into a 4 year college

Apprenticeships/Certifications

The military/community service

Four year college

COLLEGE AND CAREER PATHWAYS

We need to offer young people in high school multiple

pathways to success, instead of putting so much

emphasis on attending a four-year college.

Students should have a ready access to a clearly

delineated set of pathways to major occupations, so that

both students and their families can know which classes

and experiences would help a student interested in a

career field gain access to it.

PATHWAY

Anderson High School College and Career Plan

Cluster: Transportation Pathway: Automotive Technology Repair

Core 40 with Honors - High School Graduation Plan

A student will be exposed to College and Career Pathway options during the required Preparing for College and Careers course during his/her Freshman year. At this time, the student

should choose an initial Pathway to start with; however, a student can enter or exit a pathway at any time during his/her high school years. The pathway is designed to help students

make relevant choices when scheduling for the next school year. It is always best to consult a counselor for the best advice for which courses to take when given an option.

COLLEGE PATHWAY –

EARLY COLLEGE INITIATIVE

Students on this pathway are eligible for

enrollment to Ivy Tech after successfully

completing 15 of the 30 credit hours. By

successfully completing all 30 hours on this

freshman requirements at most state

colleges or universities. Because of the

direct ties to Ivy Tech, this pathway

completes the Early College Initiative at Ivy

Tech, allowing students to complete an

Associate’s Degree within one year of high

school graduation.
