Common Core Standards The Common Core initiative was born out of the need
to define a set of clear, rigorous standards in K-12 education to ensure students graduate high school with the preparation to succeed in college and careers in the 21st century.
• In June 2010, the state of Illinois formally adopted the new learning standards based on Common Core.
• Resources for parents can be found on the Illinois State Board of Education website.
Updated Mathematics Curriculum
• Throughout the 2011-12 school year, a District 204
committee met to update the current curriculum to fit
the new standards. These standards are being
implemented this year.
• The Profile of Progress that is received quarterly with
report cards has been updated to align with these new
standards.
