I am very excited to come to Harbour View as Principal and am looking forward to getting to know the students and working together to support your children’s learning over the course of the coming school year.

he first day is an important one for

What about school supplies?

For the first day you will need:

• a ziploc baggie with your child's name on it with crayons, a pencil, scissors, and a glue stick

• a smile – you will love Harbour View

When do we find out what class my child will be assigned to for this year?

We understand this can be a very anxious time for children as they wait to see which classroom they will be placed in for the coming year. Please be assured that Harbour View follows a very comprehensive process in the forming of classes to organize the school each year.

Collectively, the staff engage in a process where each child's needs, inclusive of learning style and social emotional learning needs, are carefully considered and balanced with the needs of students in each class as a whole to determine the best 'fit' for each student placement while working within the contractual constraints that exist.

This is a labour intensive process that begins in the spring and is revisited in September to accommodate new registrations balanced with families that may have moved out of the neighbourhood. Due to the complexity of the process, we are unable to entertain individual requests for teachers.

In the majority of cases parents, students, and teachers are quite comfortable with placement decisions.

Can placement decisions be reviewed?

We are prepared to review any placement decision at the request of a parent. What we ask is that a letter expressing the reasons for the request be provided. Then, at our earliest opportunity, the teaching staff involved in any change will meet to review the request. Once a decision is made, parents will be advised.

Thank you for your understanding.

Other than the academic lessons students learn at Harbour View, attitudes toward

prompt, regular attendance at school are among the most important lessons we teach students. Please help us teach your son or daughter healthy attitudes towards school by:

1. Complete and submit an onlineattendance form from our schoolwebsite each day your son or daughteris going to be absent or late. We needto hear before the absence occurswhenever possible. Our switchboard isopen daily at 8:00 a.m. Please call!

2. Stressing promptness. Being on timeshows respect for the activity andconsideration for others.

When each of us is occasionally, unavoidably late, it is our responsibility to:

- hurry in order to be less late- apologize on arrival for disrupting class- accept personal responsibility for beinglate. Thank you in advance for your help!

Parent Connections2016 - 2017

We encourage parents to attend Harbour View's first PAC meeting on Monday, September 26th in the school library at 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Parents are needed to plan, organize, and work the hot lunch program, our biggest ongoing fundraiser throughout the school year. Additionally, we are in need of a volunteer parent co-ordinator for after-school programming. We will not be able to entertain after-school programming without this position filled.

We have had a great committee of volunteers each year and know that we can count on our parents again this year and invite new members to get involved.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Additionally, you may have noticed our newer playground is currently under repair. After having repaired the bridge several times, we have ordered the necessary replacement parts from the manufacturer to offer a more permanent repair. Hopefully by mid September the bridge should be repaired and the playground re-opened.
