All Saints Day Reminds us that Holiness Demands Constant Effort
Our Entrance Antiphon this weekend opens with the exhortation "Let us rejoice in the Lord." Because today's liturgy invites us to share in the heavenly jubilation of the Saints so as to taste some of their joy. The Saints we honor today are from all walks of life: married, single, priests, nuns, monks, young and old, healthy and sick, poor and rich, highly intelligent and very simple persons. Persons like us in many ways who possess a love for Jesus, and a willingness to serve Him by follow His teachings with love and fidelity. And while the Church has many within Her who are unfaithful to Christ and His teachings and neglect to practice their Catholic faith. The Church also has many others who struggle to be faithful. And in the Church we also have those who live saintly lives even in 2015, which ought to be an encouragement to our own faith-journey in life. In the first reading we hear of "a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people and tongue". But "of what
use is our praise of all these Saints" Saint Bernard asks. And we might ask that same question ourselves. Saint Bernard answers: "The Saints, have no need of our honors, but for myself, thinking of them and celebrating them, I feel inspired
to imitate them to grow in greater holiness myself so as to strive to become a saint." This is the meaning of today's solemnity: Looking upon the marvelous example of the Saints, so we too can be inspired by them, to be-come living witnesses and friends of Jesus. And this is the vocation of every Christian and each one of us! To be a saint, it is not necessary to perform extraordinary deeds and works, nor is it necessary to work miracles. To become a saint, it is necessary to listen to Jesus, and to follow Him and His teachings, and not lose heart, even in the face of difficulties, even when we fail. This is what it means to practice heroic virtue. Not that we always succeed, but that we do not give up and are willing to begin again. "If anyone wants to serve Me," Jesus says, he or she must entrusts himself or herself to Me and love Me by fidelity to My teachings. And they will need at times to die to their own will / their own preferences, just as the grain of wheat must die, so as to rise to new life. We will all take slightly or greatly different paths in life. Yet, to be faithful to Christ each one of us must at times, pass through the way of the cross, which is the way of self-denial. The Saints are those who are docile to God's will, each one facing their own trials and struggles, some of them including persecution and sometimes even martyrdom, as many of our brothers and sisters in the Middle East are experiencing. These are the ones who have kept the faith, and their names are written in the book of life, and Heaven has become their eternal home. The example of the saints on this special day, hopefully will encourage each one of us to follow Christ more perfectly in following our own particular vocation in life. Holiness demands a constant effort, but it is possible, since it is not just by our own efforts alone, but also by the gifts of God's grace, especially through the Sacraments, above all through the Holy Eucharist. In the Gospel today, the beatitudes shows us the inner spiritual life of Jesus, the mystery of His death and His resurrection, including the passion and the joy of His resurrection. This mystery of our Lord's life, passion, death and resurrection, is the mystery of true holiness, and our Lord invites each one of us to follow Him, and through the beatitudes, to the way of true inner peace and happiness in this life, and one day for all eternity.

THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKETS
It’s that time again to start planning for our Thanksgiving
food to needy families in our service area. Last year we
served 25 families, so we are hoping to serve that again.
Can you help? We will need, of course, at least 25 turkeys
plus all the trimmings. We have freezer space available for
the turkeys. If you can help with a turkey donation, please
call Dee at (715) 573-4858.
Cash donations are especially needed to purchase items that
are not on our shelf, especially when we want to serve 25
families! Checks can be made payable to “Circle of Joy”
and can be put in an envelope marked “Circle of Joy” and
dropped in any collection basket, or can be mailed to:
Circle of Joy, PO Box 5024, Wausau WI 54402-5024.
Thank you so much for your generosity!

Annual Thanksgiving Mass Food Drive
As in the past, we are asking our parish members to partici-pate in our Thanksgiving Mass food drive. When you get to church, keep the non-perishable groceries with you in your pew. You will be invited at the Offertory to bring your food up and place it in front of the altar. There will be no collection that day, so if you wish to make a monetary donation instead, you are invited to bring it up at the same time and put it in the baskets that will be there for that purpose. If you are not comfortable or able to bring the food up yourself, just raise your hand and someone will carry it up for
you. Thank you!

Each year, a group of youth from HNP help parishioners with their yard work. Leaves pile up, and without the assistance of these great young men and women, would still be there in the spring.
This is not the first time the boy scout troop has signed up to help. Some aren’t HNP members but still give generously give their time. Once again, thank you, your efforts are appreciated!
