Biodiversity targets
• Globally and nationally, fell short of reaching 2010 target to reduce the rate of biodiversity loss
• UN Convention on Biological Diversity held at Nagoya, Japan, Autumn 2010 agreed new Aichi targets
• In 2011, the UK National Ecosystem Assessment examined economic and social value of biodiversity

Aichi Targets20 targets set – 2 examples:
• Target 5 – Habitat loss: By 2020, the rate of loss of all natural habitats is at least halved
• Target 11 – Protected areas: By 2020, at least 17 % of terrestrial and inland water, are conserved and effectively managed, and integrated into the wider landscape

LBAP Work LBAP – original development in 2001 All Action Plans written by 2005 60 partner organisations involved
By 2010, many targets achieved and
plans needed updating 2012 – 14: Revision of 41 plans achieved
by lead partners and Ruth Moffatt
Process• Priority habitats reviewed
• Removed achieved actions
• Aimed to get actions with targets, specific and measurable
• Identified key needs and opportunities with lead partners
• Used targets developed for Regional Spatial Strategy from detailed report
