4 Go Miami Card
Although Miami has public trains and buses, the easiest and most convenient way to explore this diverse and dynamic city is by car. From Miami International Airport, it’s a straight shot down Route I-395 (MacCarthur Causeway) into the city, or I-95 into Miami Beach. As with any metropolitan area, pay attention to road signs and construction detours as well as parking restrictions. The major routes going into Miami are I-395, S.R. 836, and I-95. Avoid morning and evening rush hours and give yourself extra time for frequent drawbridge openings. Downtown, streets are divided into NE, NW, SE, and SW at the intersection of north-south Flagler Street and east-west Miami Avenue. Street numbers start here and increase as you get farther from this intersection. Collins Avenue travels north-south through the barrier islands of Miami Beach, and numbered streets start at the southern tip. Street numbers are fairly close to their mainland equivalents, but not exactly.Miami-Dade’s public transit system includes Metrobus, Metrorail elevated light rail, and Metromover trams. The bus system extends from Miami Beach in the east to West Miami-Dade and from the Middle Keys north to the southern reaches of Broward County. For help planning a trip using public transportation, visit go.miamidade.gov or call 305-770-3131 to have a custom itinerary e-mailed to you within 24–48 Hours.Eastern Florida’s major destinations are within easy reach of I-95 or the parallel U.S. 1. Sometimes called the Overseas Highway, U.S. 1 continues southwest through Homestead and the southern tip of the Everglades, and on to the Florida Keys. Addresses along the Keys are designated by mile markers (MM), with Key West at MM 0.
