Accelerated Reader Accelerated Reader is an important part of your child’s reading progress.

Your child should be reading every night including weekends a minimum of 30 minutes.

Students have a reading range assigned to them. This range will change throughout the year. They are expected to know what their reading range is at all times so they can choose appropriate books.

When they finish each book, they will take an AR computer quiz in class and try to score at least an 80% average. Every book they take a quiz on will earn them points. Each nine week grading period they receive a grade based on the points they earned in AR. I will use the following rubric:

A = 20 or more pointsB = 16-19.9C = 14-15.9D = 10-13.9F = 9.9 or below

Students should have a book to read at ALL times! They may even bring their Kindle or reading tablet to class if they prefer.

Home Learning Students will have home learning Monday through Thursday. This will be a

review of the day’s lesson to practice at home. They should not need help with homework as it will be a review of what was taught in class. If they do not understand something, make sure it is communicated to me so that I know what skills they need help with.

Students are expected to read every day including weekends (at least 30 minutes per day).

Students will have 2-3 book reports due per nine week grading period on both fiction and non-fiction books. They will be given ample time to choose their book and complete the book report. They will learn how to effectively complete their book report and are expected to do it on their own.

Code of Conduct I expect students to follow our classroom code of conduct on a

daily basis. This includes when we are transitioning to other classes and during lunch. I expect the following from my students:

Be POLITE to others.Come PREPARED each day and ready to learn.Stay PRODUCTIVE during class.Keep things POSITIVE.

Student Portal All students need to have access to their student portal and have

their username and passwords memorized! They will be taking online tests during the year in the computer lab and will need to be able to get into their portal easily and frequently. They can also use the portal at home, to view their grades, see online copies of textbooks, and gain access to many educational sites.

The default username and password is:

Username: student ID#

Password: birthdate (mmddyy) plus 2 initials
