The members of the Perry Park Metropolitan District wish to welcome you to “The Park” and congratulate you on your choice of a place to call home.

Those of us who live here have readily come to appreciate the unique com‐bination of scenery, wildlife, seclusion, and great neighbors which make up our special neighborhood. We trust you will too.

We hope you take advantage of what The Park has to offer: great places to take a leisurely walk or a more strenuous hike, enjoying the grazing horses at the stables by the Big D open space, enjoying the golf and social activities and making new friends at the Country Club or partaking in our communi‐ty events like the 4th of July parade and fireworks display.

Living in Perry Park Ranch brings with it some obligations. For over 20 years, the Metro District has been a nationally recognized leader in work‐ing to protect our community from the potential of forest fire. You’ve moved to an area that has that risk. Our expectation is that all residents will take that risk seriously and help us reduce it by seeing their properties are properly mitigated to protect their homes and those of their neigh‐bors.is. T

Perry Park Ranch 

Much of Colorado, including Perry Park Ranch, is situated in areas that throughout history have endured wildfires. In Perry Park we sit adjacent to the million plus acres of Pike National Forest. Man‐agement of these lands in the past may have unintentionally in‐creased the severity and frequency of major fires.

Your Metro District has worked with the U. S. Forest service to thin the trees and brush from our forest interface, giving us some degree of protection from the fire potential of the National Forest. Howev‐er there still is a significant danger from fires beginning within the Forest. And fires can also occur within The Park giving little warn‐ing to our residents.

That’s why the Metro District has fully mitigated all of its District‐owned property and sponsors a twice‐a year, free pick‐up of slash (small trees, branches and undergrowth). (Details of the slash pick‐ups are available on the website.) This is the fuel that fires need to grow and its removal gives firefighters a better chance to protect our homes and other structures. However it takes the cooperation and effort of all our residents to thin vegetation on their property and to create defensible space around their homes.

To learn the basics of protecting your home and property there are many resources available. One of the best is to have our Fire De‐partment, Larkspur Fire, do an audit of your property and make recommendations as to the needed work. You can contact the Fire Department at 303‐ 681‐3284.

Other sources include the Emergency Preparedness Guide, obtaina‐ble through the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department (303‐660‐7505) and articles prepared by Rosemarie Craig available on our website under the “Safety” menu button. Be certain to register your phones with the Sheriff’s Department CodeRED system to receive all‐important, emergency Reverse 911 calls.

Take note of the map on the back cover of this booklet. It details the Emergency Evacuation Routes set up to facilitate resident evac‐uation. Familiarize yourself and your family with these roads so if the time comes, you will be prepared to leave quickly and safely.

We hope fire never comes to Perry Park, but if it does, be prepared.
