Question of the Day

In a freak occurrence of natural disasters a landslide, volcanic eruption, tsunami, and earthquake all happened in the same area. It seems that each disaster was caused by another disaster. What is the most likely order that these events occurred?

An Earthquake strikes triggering the volcanic eruption. The eruption causes the landslide and the landslide causes the tsunami.

Sand Hills Lab

In this lab you will develop and test a hypothesis about how mass movement affects the size and shape of a sand hill.

You will be creating landslides and making observations about your landslides.

Problem: What is the relationship between height and width of a sand hill?

Materials: dry sand, ruler, cardboard tube, tape, pencil, skewer, large sheet of paper, spoon
