Welcome to St Paul’s Community Hall

Serving the community of Grangetown since 1968

Our hall has served the parish and community well since its construction in 1968, but due to extensive use it was looking tired and dated.

However, following a LONG process of discernment, with the help of diocesan staff and

the hard work of the building committee (and lots and lots of patience) we now have a

beautifully refurbished hall.

It has been given a new lease of life!

So, the journey to today has been a long

(and sometimes painful) one!

We initially planned to have a hall that looked like this…

It was going to cost over £400,000!

The building committee, aided by the wonderful Richard and Helen, secured over

half of the money needed!

BIG HURRAY!

But sadly, we didn’t get the significant grant we needed from the big lottery

fund…

BIG BOO!

We made a convincing case to our funders and they eventually said… YES!

However, in Grangetown we’re made of strong stuff and we don’t give up very

easily!

So, because time was running out and we’d been given a lot of money – we

decided to proceed with a refurbishment that was a little less ambitious!

The work to transform the hall started on the 7th July and it has been a bit of an emotional journey, especially when we

had to clear out the old, familiar hall. So many fond memories…

Then the builders moved in…

…and it started getting bashed about!

We won’t miss that wallpaper though!

We got particularly worried when the roof came off!...

But eventually order came out of chaos! Following lots of destruction, wonderful

things started to take shape…

New windows were created…

… and old ones were blocked up.

Walls went up…

…and some came down!

Our architect visited regularly to keep an eye on progress.

The Archbishop also popped in!

The exterior got a facelift too!

The building team were a happy bunch!

They weren’t happy when the steel work was late or when the water came in

after heavy wind and rain!

Choosing the colour of the carpet caused some sleepless nights!

But we hope you’ll agree, it was worth it in

the end!

In fact, it was all worth it in the end!

It’s been such a burden spending so much money, but someone had to do it!

Now for some before and after pictures…

A great job and a great team!
