Syllabus• We will go over important details of the syllabus

• YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A NEW COPY IF YOU LOSE IT

• Be sure to return the bottom portion of your signed syllabus by next week

• It must be typed EXACTLY in the address bar to get to it

• You will find most materials you need for your projects on this website

Classroom Expectations• When you enter my room, you will see instructions on the board for

what to do to get started. • I expect you to enter my room ready to work. Go directly to your

assigned seat and begin your work for the day.

• Disrupting others will result in a consequence

• Please refer to your school agenda for all school rules.

• No food or drink AT ALL in the computer lab.

• We have an ENTER door and an EXIT door, if you use the wrong door, I will have you try again.

Follow Directions• I will not repeat directions if you

are not listening• This is different than listening

and not understanding

• When I provide written directions, be sure to READ them and make an attempt before asking what to do

Bathroom Policy• You may only go to the bathroom during independent work – Never

during my whole class instruction

• You may only use the bathroom 4 times each nine weeks

• If you want water—you must use a bathroom pass (one of your 4)

• Only 1 student may be out of the classroom at one time

• You MUST have your agenda (with your name written on the bathroom pass page)

• You must follow my bathroom procedure to be given permission to go (next slide)

Bathroom Procedure1. Take out your agenda (and make sure your name is on the bathroom

pass page)

2. Fill out the next available line on your bathroom pass page (date, R, & time)

3. Bring me your agenda & a pen (no speaking needed)

4. I will sign your agenda & that means “Yes, you may go”

5. Fill out the bathroom log on the wall by my desk and take the bathroom pass.

6. When you return, sign back in and return the bathroom pass

How to Get Help• Keep in mind: I have an around 30 students in each of my classes and only one

me. This means If I spent time working one on one with each student, I would only have 3 minutes per student each class. Be patient if you need help!

• If I am walking around the room helping others:• Raise your hand & I will come to you when I am done working with others• While waiting for me, continue to work and try to solve your problem or work on

another part of the assignment

• If I am at my desk• Come to my desk• I can work on your screen from my desk

Computer Wallpaper• ALL computers will have the same class wallpaper.

• You may not change your desktop background as it wastes class time and is distracting to the learning environment of others.

• All user accounts will also show this picture on the login screen.

• If you do not have the class wallpaper on your computer, you will get it from the class website and save it to the Public Pictures folder on your computer.

Consequences

• If you are not meeting school or class expectations, you receive a warning (verbal or non verbal).

• Willful, severe, or repetitive poor behavior will result in one or more of the following consequences: student conference, lunch detention, parent contact, seat change, extra assignment, behavior report, or referral.

Unauthorized Use• You may not go on to any website that is not

authorized by me.

• Gaming websites may seem harmless but install harmful viruses, malware, and adware onto school computers.

• Any use of websites that are not authorized (including but not limited to streaming music and gaming websites) will result in automatic referral for "Unauthorized Use of Technology".

• This referral will result in intervention.

• This is a policy where I will not give second chances!

Grades• We will have occasional quizzes. The majority of

grades will be through projects. You will receive participation grades for completing in-class tasks & good behavior in class.

• The only way students have failed my course is from a failure to turn in work. • If you turn in work, I can almost guarantee that you

pass my class.

• The work is hard but is very rewarding when you see what you can achieve with persistence and learning from mistakes.

Make Up Work• If you use your time efficiently in class you will complete all projects and

assignments in class.

• You are expected to keep up with lessons and projects in class. Late or incomplete work can be turned in during the same 9 weeks for a reduced score (half score).

• If work is late due to an excused absence, you will have one extra school day per day of excused absence to complete it without a reduction in grade.

• If you miss class (excused or unexcused absence), you will need to make up work in your own time – class projects will continue to have deadlines and I cannot stop the whole class to wait for people to catch up.

Workday Wednesday• Every Wednesday is “Workday Wednesday”.

• The lab will be available for you during lunch to complete work that you need more time to complete. • This is built in time for students with accommodations for

extended time as well as time for students who miss class for various reasons.

• I will not open the lab on any other day during lunch. I am giving up my own lunch time each Wednesday for you to have more time to work.

Work in ISS• Because of the nature of the work we do in class, I cannot make assignments available to you if you are in the In School Suspension room.

• My classroom computers have specific software that is needed for the projects we are completing.

This class can be difficult but I will guide you through the process of everything we do.

If you remain on task and show true effort, you will do well in this class and have a lot of fun in

the process.

My class is about the process of learning, not producing perfect products.

Logging into Computers & Setting Up Your Class Folder

Logging in & Out• Username: your class period #• Example: If you are in my first period class your

username is: 1• If you have any spaces before or after the number it will not let you log in. Just type the

number.

• Password: Leave it blank

• You will have to log in at the start of Every Class & Log out at the bell Every Day.• If you forget to log out, you risk losing files.

My Documents• You can get to the My Documents

folder by clicking on the folder on the bottom left of your computer.

• Expand “Libraries”

• Expand “Documents”

• “My Documents” is inside the Documents folder

• The “My Documents” folder is only accessible through your user account.

• “Public Documents” can be accessed by ALL user accounts on a computer.

Files & Folders: setting up your class folder• First you will remove files from previous students in this

folder.

• Make sure you have opened the “My Documents” folder.

• We only want to delete items inside this folder (not all of the documents on the computer)

• How to quickly select all items in a folder to delete them:

• Click on an empty space within the folder and dragging your mouse to make a box that selects all the items in that folder

• Once all items in the folder are selected, press the delete key on your keyboard. Then click OK on the window asking if you want to delete selected items.

• You will set up a folder in “My Documents” on your computer

• To do this, open the “My Documents” folder

• Right click inside the folder.

• Select “New” > “Folder”

Name your new folder this way:

Files & Folders: setting up your class folder

• EVERYTHING THAT YOU SAVE IN THIS CLASS WILL BE SAVED IN YOUR FOLDER!

• Be sure you save things correctly or risk them being deleted.

• Now you will clean up your desktop.

• Use the same process as with cleaning up your My Documents Folder to select and delete files from your desktop.

• When you have finished your desktop should look like the one on this screen.

• The Taskbar is helpful because you can “pin” commonly used programs for quick access.

• You can also unpin unnecessary programs from the taskbar to remove them.

• To do this, right click on something you want to remove in the taskbar and select “unpin from taskbar”• If Internet Explorer is on your taskbar, please unpin it.

• You can also unpin Windows Media Player.

• Sometimes the program you want to use is not pinned to your taskbar or shown on your desktop.

• How to find a program that is on your computer but not on the taskbar or desktop:

• Once a program is open, you can pin it to your taskbar by right clicking on it in the task bar and selecting “pin to taskbar” from the pop up menu.

• This method also works to find files (if you cant remember where you saved them but know the file name)
