GEAR UP, Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Pro-grams, is a researched based, national college access initiative that pro-vides critical early college awareness and support activities within our Wilkes County middle schools. The program will begin matriculating to all four high schools next year. The GEAR UP program model strives to in-crease the number of students who are informed about how to plan, apply and pay for college through the GU 101 curriculum, career exploration, col-
lege tours, cultural activities, and so much more…

duced to an important mission by their principal, Jennifer Blankenship,

sion was to work collaboratively in teams to race around Wilkes Coun-
ty finding clues, facing roadblocks, and completing detour activities.
While visiting the community stops, team members picked up materi-
als to bring back to the school for a collaborative challenge activity.
