Welcome to the 2017 SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge in association with Golfplan

The PGA, SkyCaddie and Golfplan invite your club to compete in one of The PGA’s most popular and keenly contested tournaments, the Pro-Captain Challenge, which is set to break new ground by holding the grand final in Africa for the first time.

2017 is the 20th staging of the event in which pairs comprising a PGA Professional and club Captain will aim to book their place in this year’s final in Morocco at the luxurious Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, El Jadida.

Serving as your club’s Captain is one of the greatest honours any club golfer can achieve and playing as a team on behalf of your club will provide a memory that is never forgotten. The PGA Pro-Captain Challenge certainly creates a great spirit between the Captain and the PGA Professional and has being doing so since the tournament’s inception.

This entry pack contains all the information required to ensure that your club is represented at one of the 10 regional finals staged at renowned venues across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The successful pairing from each of them will compete for the title in the 36-hole grand final staged on a course that boasts an impressive pedigree.

The par-72 course at Mazagan was designed by nine times major winner Gary Player, the African continent’s most renowned golfer who was Open champion three times. That affinity with links venues is reflected in the course at Mazagan that, running alongside the beach, follows the contours of the dunes and natural features of the land.

We look forward to a record entry of clubs competing for the glory of winning the SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge, in association with Golfplan.

Please return your entry form as soon as possible to secure your place in this prestigious tournament.

Best wishes for a great golfing year ahead.

2017 Schedule and Prize Fund

1. Conditions of Play(i) The SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Challenge in association with Golfplan (Refer to as The PGA Pro-Captain Challenge throughout these conditions) is a four-ball stableford team competition open to all Golf Clubs in Great Britain and Ireland that are affiliated to their relevant National or County Golf Union, who currently engage an eligible PGA Professional and have a Club Captain as defined in 4 & 5. (ii) Each eligible club is invited to enter a team into The PGA Pro-Captain Challenge. Each team is a side and comprises an eligible PGA Professional and Club Captain as defined in 4 & 5. (iii) The PGA Pro-Captain Challenge is a four-ball stableford competition. It is a condition of entry that both members of the side must be present and able to contribute to the team score during the stipulated round. This supersedes the provisions of Rule 31-2. (iv) The maximum handicap for Captains is 28. Captains with higher handicaps may enter but will be required to play off a maximum of 28 at all stages of The PGA Pro-Captain Challenge. At all stages of The PGA Pro-Captain Challenge a 90% handicap allowance will be granted. (v) All stages of The PGA Pro-Captain Challenge will be run in accordance with PGA Tournament Regulations, the Rules of Golf of R&A Rules Ltd, PGA Local Rules and Conditions of Competition and the local rules of the host venue, as approved by The PGA. (vi) PGA Professionals and Captains may only represent one club in The PGA Pro-Captain Challenge. (vii) For each club entry, the respective PGA Professional is liable for any disciplinary action under PGA Tournament Regulations, including withdrawal following the closing date.

2. Regional Finals (i) The Regional Finals are decided over 18 holes unless conditions require the number of holes to be reduced as per PGA Tournament Regulations. (ii) In the event of a tie, winners will be decided by a card play-off as follows: most stableford point on the last 9, 6, 3, 1, holes. If a tie still remains the result will be determined by a match play hole-by-hole playoff from the stableford scores recorded on the card starting at the first hole of the round. (iii) Information for competitors and the draw for starting times will be sent via e-mail to the PGA Professional approximately two weeks prior to the Regional Finals. They will also be available from www.pga.info. (iv) The leading pair from each Regional Final will qualify for the Grand Final to be held at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort on Tuesday 21st November & Wednesday 22nd November 2017. (v) Clubs may nominate the Regional Final in which they wish to participate. Entries are limited to 64 teams per Regional Final and entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Adjustments to field size and entries are at the discretion of The PGA and can be made at any time. (vi) The top three teams will receive prizes and therefore must attend the prize presentation.

3. Grand Final(i) The Grand Final will be decided over 36 holes of four-ball stableford as defined in 1 (iii) with 18 holes to be played on each day unless conditions require this to be altered as per PGA Tournament Regulations. (ii) The field will total 10 teams, comprising the winning pair from each of the 10 Regional Finals. (iii) In the event of a tie for first place in the Grand Final, a hole-by-hole stableford play-off will be held, the winning team of which will be Champions. The play-off will commence from hole 1 and continue, playing the holes in order until a winner is determined. If applicable, handicap strokes will apply. For the purpose of the Professional Prize Fund all pairs involved in the play-off other than the champions will be deemed to have tied for second place and prize money will be shared. In the case of amateur prizes any ties for the top three places will be determined firstly by performance in the play-off and if still tied a card play-off. Card play-off, if applicable, will operate as follows: most stableford points on the last 18, 9, 6, 3 and 1 holes. If a tie still remains the result will be determined by a match play hole-by-hole play-off from the stableford scores recorded on the card starting at the first hole of the final round. If still tied, the same procedure will apply to the round 1 card. (iv) In the event of either the Captain or PGA Professional of a winning team at a Regional Final leaving the Club before the Grand Final, or the team being unable to participate in the Grand Final, the team finishing second in the relevant Regional Final will take the team’s place. (v) All competitors participating in the Grand Final will be expected to make and pay for their own travel arrangements to the UK departure point, with the exception of those teams qualifying from the Irish & Scottish Regional Finals, who will be expected to make and pay for their own travel arrangements to their respective first departure point. Thereafter all flights, accommodation and food and beverage at the Welcome Dinner and Gala Dinner will be provided. Further information will be provided in the Information for Competitors at the Grand Final.

Requests must be made in writing. (iii) The PGA Tournament Department must be informed of any substitutions as soon as possible. If either of the above policies are implemented and the team qualifies for the Grand Final, the substitute is required to participate in the Grand Final (i.e. the originally entered PGA Professional is not allowed to replace the substitute PGA Professional at the Grand Final).
