Slide 4 Why we are moving to Florida! Slide 5 Slide 6 This is going to destroy everything weve worked for! We are not going to stand for this! Who is really going to get the money? Who says this is best for the children? It certainly isnt best for the teachers. Parents need to be brought into this! Why cant we just go back to the good old days. OH FOR THE GOOD OLDAYS! How many times have you heard Slide 7 Florida State Seminoles Class of 1902 Slide 8 Singing School Fort Meade, 1909 Slide 9 Two-Horse School bus! Slide 10 Faculty watermelon party on the front steps of Dixieland Elementary School Slide 11 Charm School Inductees of 1947 St. Petersburg Slide 12 Tallahassee Democrat 1957 Slide 13 1. Fellow Educator of 39 years 2. Almost burned out and learned to realize my strengths and weaknesses 3. Became a beggar (to everyone!) 4. Became a leader by learning to serve 5. Learned to rejuvenate and balance 7. Found leadership lessons from around the world! 8. Learned to share my story. Slide 14 Slide 15 30% of Americas Students are Dropouts! I was PERSONALIZATION! One life at a time. So, whats the answer? Slide 16 I WAS BEING SET UP AND NEITHER OF US KNEW! SHOW ME! Transformational Leadership Individually and collectively We dont always get to see the results! CRISIS DANGER OPPORTUNITY Slide 19 Charles Bean Director of Dropout Prevention, St. Louis City Public Schools LHS Graduation 1989 Slide 20 Slide 21 Hardworking; Dedicated; Respectful of rules; Conservative Old-fashioned; Behind the times; Autocratic; Aversion to Change Optimistic; Team player; Competitive; Efficient Self-centered; political; Power-driven; Workaholic; Unrealistic Slide 22 Balanced (work/life quality); Self-reliant; Slackers; Selfish; Impatient; Cynical; Pragmatic Fun-seeking; Technology savvy Short attention span; Spoiled; Disrespectful; Tech dependent Slide 23 Take advantage of the differences in values, styles and expectations of each; but be careful NOT to follow blanket stereotypes. Slide 24 Facilitate mentoring and generational interaction in all areas. Utilize the high expectations of ambitious Millennials with special tasks. Generation X will soon dominate teachers and leadership in education, use that. Get key players of each on board; keep the focus on utilizing available funds while showing benefits for all especially students. Boomers offer a wealth of knowledge, implementing transitions and change. Slide 25 TOP TEN QUALITIES OF LEADERS Of EXCELLENCE 1.They are authentic, trustworthy, safe and respected. 2.They are good listeners at all levels. 3.They treat subordinates with dignity and respect. 4.They have clear, consistent expectations. 5.They seek solutions and input from many; accept responsibility (The Buck Stops Here!) 6.They are flexible and willing to change. 7.They can motivate those under them to succeed. 8.They find the good and praise it. 9. They strive to live a balanced life, personally and professionally. 10. They have developed a good sense of humor. Dr. Debra D.
