Mission Statement St. Joseph Parish, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, is a community of God’s people. We, as a faith-filled com-munity, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, worship the Father by imitating the Son. We reach out to all people by evangelizing through the spiritual and corporal works of mercy for the dignity of all human life. By our daily proclamation of the Gospel and celebration of the sacraments, addressing our spiritual, social and educational needs, we shine with the love of Christ.

St Joseph Parish Weather Policy
On school days, if St Joseph School is cancelled due to weather, all other parish activities/meetings/appointments scheduled for that day are also cancelled.
On the weekend, if Religious Education class on Sunday between Masses is to be cancelled, it will be announced on the various media channels.
In all cases, our weekend or daily Mass will always be at the scheduled time. You are encouraged to use common sense as to your ability to get to Mass safely.
All notices will be posted on the parish website, www.stjosephgarrett.com.
“Comfort, give comfort to my people,” says your God. So our reading from Isaiah the prophet declares to us today. He could have shouted out to all of us that our Savior was coming soon, in God’s time, coming to save us. Give com-fort in that hope that it will be soon. Then Isaiah contin-ues…”A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the Lord!” Yes, He is coming, and I must be prepared…I must ready my heart once again to make it a place He will want to be, He will want to live. So, prepare His way…fill in the valleys of despair and pain, lower the hills and mountains of resistance, and smooth out the roughness of judgment and hard heartedness. Prepare the way for Him. St Mark will tell us in the gospel that this voice cry-ing out is John the Baptist. It is John who was sent for a divine purpose…to wake up people, to point out that the Messiah was here, that it was in fact Jesus. It is John who will declare he is not the Messiah, it is John who will point to Jesus and declare that He is the One, the Son of God and Messiah, the Savior who will come for us. Are you preparing and refurbishing His way into you? While we were installing new carpet and tile in church, we also installed the Loop for the hearing impaired. This system enables those with digital hearing aids and the proper setting on the aids to have sound directly broad-cast to their hearing aids. (I have hearing aids…it really does work). See the article to the right of my letter for more info. The key is digital hearing aids with proper Loop setting. Beginning this Tuesday, December 12, we will resume our practice of Adoration of the Holy Eucharist on Tuesdays after the 8:30 am Mass until 11:00 am. The school chil-dren will also be present at Tuesday and Friday Masses at 8:30 am when school is in session. Please note our weather closing/delaying policy, also listed to the right of this letter. Masses will always be celebrated at the designated time whether you can get here or not. Next Tuesday, December 19, 7:00 pm, Advent Reconcilia-tion Service, in church, several priests hearing confes-sions…prepare the way of the Lord into your heart and soul. St Joseph, pray for us. Fr. Jim
Adult Choir Do you have a love of the Lord and of singing? Please come join our Adult Choir. No auditions required. Your love of the Lord and singing is all that's required. We practice as needed in the time slot after 8:00 mass and before 10:30. With Advent and Christmas coming, our next practice will be Dec. 17th. We will meet and prac-tice by the piano in the church.
All are welcome to St. Joseph Catholic School's Christmas Program! Please join us Monday, December 18, for a joyful and glorified event. There will be two shows on that day, 9:00 a.m. in the morning and 6:00 p.m. in the evening. If you have found yourself lost in the hustle and bustle this season, this is a perfect way to find the Christmas Spirit. O Come Let Us Adore Him! Mitten Mass will be held Friday, December 15, at 8:30 a.m. Students are collecting new or used mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves. If you would like to donate, Student Council will have a donation box at the school for all parishioners. Please drop off your items during school hours. All donations will be offered at the Mitten Mass and then given to St. Mar-tin’s Clothes Closet. Thank you.
The Loop Is Here Are you missing some of the message in church (readers or announcements)? Are there too many echoes and inter-fering noises (crying babies)? Help is here. We have in-stalled a hearing loop in our church. If you have digital hearing aids, you will be able to hear everything coming over the sound system through your hearing aids.
Contact your audiologist to activate the loop setting in
your digital aids. When you come to Mass or any other
event in the church, just select the loop setting and eve-
rything coming through the sound system will be coming
directly to you through your hearing aids. You won’t be-
lieve the difference it makes. The loop is activated in
church.
Christmas Preludes The Children's Choir will sing a prelude before the 4:00 mass on Christmas Eve. It will begin at 3:40 PM. The Adult Choir will sing a prelude before the 6:30 mass on Christmas Eve beginning at 6:00.
