Parent AssistanceA parent/guardian must fill out all paperwork through Skyward.
The cafeteria will be open at the conclusion of orientation to fill out this paperwork. There will be staff available to assist if you have questions.
Please complete the FREE & REDUCED LUNCH application. This will be found on the Durham webpage.
This form must be filled out every year online.
Positive Behavior Incentive SystemWe want our students to focus on positive behavior that allows them to be successful.
During Dragon Way week, we will teach students how they can earn certificates and privileges through positive behavior and making good decisions.
Positive Behavior Incentive SystemStudents who receive no infractions or referrals will be rewarded with a Dragon Sticker at the end of the nine weeks.
Dragon stickers will provide access to outside activities during lunch and other privileges.
Braggin’ On the DragonThe award is designed to recognize hard work, effort and GRIT.
Braggin’ on the Dragon Ceremony. Each semester teachers nominate students for Braggin’ on the Dragon award.
Positive PostcardsTeachers also hand out Positive Postcards each week to students making positive choices. Drawings are held each Friday for prizes.
Instructional MaterialsNot all classes will use a physical textbook; many will use a digital resource instead.
Teachers will be using Canvas (a new learning management system) to share due dates and curriculum. Your student will receive parental codes and you will have access to their account.

Safety and Security - Mrs. Hall
We will be conducting all of these drills throughout the year.
The first week of school your student will be bringing home a copy of this page.
IDs (for everyone in the building) help a great deal in the safety of our school.
ID’sStudents are expected to wear their ID at all times on a lanyard around their neck.
• Students will receive 2 Free ID’s for the year. The first will be given when school starts and the second around the 5th week of school.
• A $5.00 Charge for Replacement IDs.
Technology use will be limited to instructional use only if you don’t have your identification.
TechnologyIt is the expectation that all students will have a technology device fully charged and ready for the school day.
• A parent or guardian will have to have signed an AUP online for their student to be able to use technology (personal or school)
• Non-instructional technology use is limited to before or after school and during the last 10 minutes of lunch unless stated by ad administrator.
• See Ms. Cotton in the library for tech issues.
First Day of SchoolDrop off supplies
Regular Day of School
- Lunch or lunch money- Kid can bring cash- Parent can put online
Report to and drop off supplies in:
- 6th grade - cafeteria- 7th grade - small gym- 8th grade - big gym
Dragon Den TimeNew schedule
Start with 17 min Dragon Den -- each day (similar to a homeroom)
- Same teacher and classroom each day
- Used to complete counseling lessons, etc...
PE Students must dress out in gym shorts and T-shirt and gym shoes during PE
Boys - Bring a lock so they can be assigned a locker. Girls - Combination locks will be provided.
Pre-Athletics - work on athletic skills
Non-athletics - will work fitness and healthy life
Dress CodeStudents are expected to meet dress code as stated in the student code of conduct. For example:
- appropriate length pants, skirts or shorts at mid-thigh or longer - outside layer of clothing must fit at your natural waistline. - holes in jeans must be lower than the mid-thigh - Earrings and a nose stud may be acceptable
- no other facial or visible body piercings - Tattoos must not be visible during the school day.
- Yoga pants, leggings and jeggings may be worn if the shirt drapes to mid-thigh in both front and back.
Head CoveringsCaps, hats, or other head covers including (but not limited to) sweatbands, bandannas, hair rollers, hair curlers, and other similar hair grooming items, shall not be worn by male or female students in the school building.
● All students may wear a headband (not a modified bandanna) that keeps hair off the face. Sweatbands are not allowed for any student.
● Hoodies (hooded sweatshirt) may be worn, however the hood cannot cover the head.
● Hair grooming items cannot be visible (must be in backpack).
Hair color that is out of dress code...
25% of the hair can be an unnatural color
Dress CodeClothing that advertises, by name or symbol, any products that are not permitted in schools are prohibited, including, but not limited to the following: • drugs, alcohol, profanity or suggestive slogans, tobacco, obscenity,
violence or gangs Clothing which would be deemed inappropriate by dress code guidelines or offensive for school in general, shall not be allowed.

Bus Expectations- Ms. Croll• Enter and exit the bus in a single file line.• Once on the bus, find your assigned seat and stay
seated, unless instructed otherwise by the bus driver. Girls will sit on right and boys will sit on left.
• No throwing items, hitting or screaming/yelling. Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself.
• Follow bus driver’s direction - no exceptions.• Stay seated until bus comes to a complete stop. - no
exceptions

Services Offered by LISD
Love and Logic Parenting Class
• Classes offered in the Fall and Spring.
• The program offers parents the opportunity to learn how to allow their child to be responsible for their own actions and consequences.
Whole Child Parent Education
• Classes are offered 4 times per year.
• In LISD, we know students thrive when they are engaged in their learning and feel a sense of belonging in our schools.
C.H.O.I.C.E.SChoosing Healthy Options In Creating Excellence In Success
ADAPT
• Possible alternative to traditional disciplinary consequences (ISS)
• Parents and students meet separately with a counselor in group setting.
LISD Family Center
• LISD students are able to receive free counseling through the CHOICES Family Center.
• Services provided Monday-Thursday from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Lewisville Learning Center.
Schedule Change Requests
! Schedule change requests will be accepted AFTER you receive your OFFICIAL schedule on the 1st day of school.
! Change requests will be submitted via google form. Which can be found on the school website after the first day of school.
! Last day to request changes is August 24th.
Math LabIf you were unsuccessful with Math STAAR during 5th grade, in an effort to ensure future success, you will be placed in a math lab in addition to your regular math class.
