Welcome to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Parish A Message from Fr. Jake…. Dear Friends, I hope and pray that this message finds all of you doing as well as possible under our current circumstances. As we announced in the letter that I sent to every household last week, all parish liturgies are cancelled until further no-tice. Many of you are probably wondering how long this suspension of liturgies will last for our community. The answer is that no one knows at this point in time. The current recommendation from the CDC and other government officials is that there should be no gatherings of more than 10 people until the end of March. Furthermore, they are recommending that there should be no gatherings above 50 until the middle of May. If you have been following the daily updates given by the COVID-19 taskforce, they have been indicating that the above recommendations could be extended at any point because of the progression of the virus. Therefore, when the diocese tells us that nothing will be scheduled until further notice, we will follow their direction. The following events are suspended until further notice:

Bringing the RCIA participants into Full Communion with the Catholic Church First Communion on April 19th Confirmation on April 25th

There are many more events that have been suspended until further notice, and again, we will give more information when we are able after getting more guidance from the diocese. If you have questions about a specific event, please look at the parish calendar on our website, or if you do not have the internet, please call the parish office. Please know that there can still be baptisms, weddings, and funerals during this time. There are many restrictions placed on these events, but again, please know that the parish can address these immediate pastoral needs. If you have any specific questions about these events, please contact me directly so I can guide you through what the parish can do to help your family I have directed that all in-person meetings here at parish to be cancelled until at least April 13th. Many meetings will be cancelled, but we are working on finding alternative ways to meet. Therefore, thank you in advance for your patience as we work out alternative means of getting us communicating with each other. JFK, our parish school, will not have in-person gatherings of students until at least April 13th. For the most up-to-date information on how the school is addressing the needs of families during this three-week suspension of classes, please go to our parish website, www.olvjfk.com The parish has ramped up its resources for parishioners. Here is the current list of resources available to you, our parishioners.

On the parish website, you will find a special prayer request section. Please continue to let the community know how we can pray for all of you. If you do not have internet, please call the parish office with your prayer request.

There will be a daily email from the parish.

A daily meditation will be available until further notice through our parish’s YouTube channel, which can be assessed through the parish website. This daily meditation will also be available to those who do not have internet by calling a local telephone number: (563) 217-1020.

A weekend Mass will be recorded and available every Sunday Morning via our parish website. If you do not have internet or television access to a Mass, please use the prayer resource that we sent to you last week in the mail.

Many of you have identified yourselves as being willing to help out anyone in need during this crisis. The list of volunteers continues to grow every day. Therefore, if you know of someone in need, please have them call the parish office at 563-391-4245. Those in need do not have to be parishioners. We need to take care of everyone right now to the best of our abilities. The parish office hours have been extended to meet this need. The parish office will be open from 7:30AM until 6:00PM, Monday through Friday. It will also be open on the weekends from 8:00AM until 4:00PM. If we need to extend these hours more, we will.

We will continue to publish our parish bulletins. They will be available in the church. The Church remains open from 7:30AM until 8:00PM each day. We will begin mailing out bulletins to parishioners who request them. If you or someone you know would like to receive a bulletin at home, please have them email or call the parish office.

I cannot stress enough the parish wants to help and assist you during this difficult time. Please just reach out to the parish, and we will try our best to help and assist you. Please know of my personal thoughts and prayers for all of you. Our Lady of Victory, pray for us!

A Prayer to Combat the Coronavirus Pandemic Most merciful and Triune God, We come to you in our weakness. We come to you in our fear. We come to you with trust. For you alone are our hope. We place before you the disease present in our world. We turn to you in our time of need. Bring wisdom to doctors. Give understanding to scientists. Endow caregivers with compassion and generosity. Bring healing to those who are ill. Protect those who are most at risk. Give comfort to those who have lost a loved one. Welcome those who have died into your eternal home. Stabilize our communities. Unite us in our compassion. Remove all fear from our hearts. Fill us with confidence in your care. Jesus, I trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen. — The author of this beautiful prayer is unknown, except to the Lord. If you know who the author is, please let us know so we can give proper acknowledgement. We are disciples of Jesus making faith matter and sharing God’s love to make more disciples! All youth ministry gatherings at OLV have been suspended for the duration of the Covid-19 situation in accordance with the Bishop’s request. Teens and their families are invited to participate in various on-line forms of ministry during this time starting with joining ProjectYM and some of the biggest names in youth ministry on Sunday evenings for online youth nights from 7-8pm central. Parents follow this link to participate and find out more information: https://projectym/com/live/. As more options for youth (and college students) become available, we will let you know! Seniors! Don’t forget it’s time to submit your scholarship submissions for the Monsignor Parizek $1,000 college scholarship. This is a great way to get support from your parish at the start of your college journey! Forms available from the parish website! For High School Youth: Parents and HS teens: Sign up for our Remind text service by texting “@olvh” to the number 81010. We’ll be using these texts to let families know about youth ministry events all year and special summer events as well! Grow with God. Love your neighbor. Share your faith.

At this point we anticipate that we will need to reschedule Confirmation Mass and pictures. We will let everyone know as soon as we know more details.

Social Action/Christian Service What is the deep spiritual truth revealed in this time of the coronavirus? God does not create evil. God never wills evil. If God permits some evil, it is only that a greater good may be accomplished, says St. Thomas Aquinas. Or as the evangelist puts it, “so that the works of God might be made visible” (Jn 9:3). If we choose to live in the light that has come into the world, we will give testimony to it by showing consideration for others, by trusting those in authority over us, by doing whatever acts of love and kindness the Spirit reveals to us. ~Fr Terrance Klein

Fifth Sunday of Lent

May your hearts be full as you continue your Lenten journey on the way to Easter. With thankful hearts, we know our Faith will guide us along the way. The Foundation goal remains the same, to ensure joyful hearts of love and faith extending to future

Our Lady of Victory and John F. Kennedy families. As we are challenged to grow and thrive in new ways, may you find peace in knowing we are all in this together and will be stronger together in the days ahead.

Stewardship Moment How often do we invest our time, talent, and treasure in creating an appearance that does not matter to God? We strive to impress with our clothing, home, career, possessions, and other marks of distinction. But none of these illusions will impress God. Instead, God will look into our hearts to see how much we have loved and how we demonstrated that love by the way we used our gifts here on earth.

From your Parish Nurses

5 more tips on how to live a stress free life during stress-ful times: Slow Down- Modern life is busy. Sometimes we just need to slow down.

Set your watch 5 to 10 minutes ahead. You will get places early and avoid the stress of being late.

Switch to the slow lane when driving to avoid road rage.

Breakdown big jobs into smaller ones. Make time for hobbies- Set aside time for things that you enjoy. Try to do something every day that makes you feel good as it will help to relieve your stress. 15 to 20 minutes will do!

Reading, Knitting, Playing golf, Watching a movie, Doing an art project, Do a puzzle, Playing cards or a board game

Talk about your problems-If things are bothering you, talking about them can lower stress. Go to reconcilia-tion, talk to a priest, family members, friends, or a therapist to name a few. You can also self-talk changing your negative message to a positive one. For example, don’t tell yourself “I can’t do this.” Instead say to yourself: “I can do this” or “I am doing the best I can.” Laugh- It’s hard to feel anxious when you’re laughing. Laughter can help to improve your immune system and mood. Avoid Procrastination- Another way to avoid stress is to stay on top of your priorities and stop procrastinating. Make a list and get a jump on your spring cleaning!
