Welcome to the first officialnewsletter of The Regals MoparCar Club!

I must say a thank you to thecommittee for letting me be partof such a great club and helpingout with being the Editor of thenewsletter. Some great plans inplace for the Regals moving for-ward and we need everyone'shelp to make the Regals the bestclub around and the club thepeople want to join.

Currently the newsletter will be abi-monthly publication and hope-fully into 2010 it will be amonthly release and that’s whywe need members help with anyarticles that can be included.

Always after articles on build ups, projects on the go, event reports, old ads and anything you thinkwould be interesting to readabout.

It’s always great receiving a club

newsletter in the mail and evenbetter when it’s a great read solet’s make the “Regals Torque”the best Club Newsletter around.

We’ll hopefully have more arti-cles on members vehicles in fu-ture issues.

Hope you enjoy the historic firstissue of the “Regals Torque” andmany more to come..

Cheerz,

Pana

for the word to spread about“that new club” in Sydney. Thiswas soon followed by a killerwebsite, which I am proud to sayreceives compliments all thetime.

Our membership is growing at ahealthy pace, and we look for-ward to inviting new Mopar fansto the club as time goes on.These are exciting times for Mo-par owners, as our cars are grow-ing in popularity every day. It’sinteresting to know that thereare so many nice cars out there, and through the club, we hope tobring them out of the sheds andonto the streets!

With that in mind, please have agood look through the recentlylaunched “Gallery” section of thewebsite. There are some awe-some rides, and a few weapons“in the build”. As I write, I haverecently come back from the

Hunter Valley Chrysler Club’sWake Run. It was a fantasticweekend run by great people. Please enjoy the review on pageXX of this publication. It won’t belong until The All Day ChryslerDay, where we intend to put on adisplay showcasing some of thewicked cars we have in the clubalready. Please don’t forgetabout our own “Pre All DayChrysler Run” on October 31st. Ihope you can all make it. Addi-tionally, thanks to those whojoined us on our last club cruise. Please check the “Events” pageof the website for future cruisedates.

Keep on cruising!

President. The Regals Mopar Car

Club Inc.

Welcome to issue 1 of The RegalsMopar Car Club Inc Newsletter. As this is our first official publica-tion, I’ll start with a brief historyof the club.

The club was conceived in West-ern Sydney by a small group ofMopar enthusiasts at the start of2008. We all wanted to be partof a club, but we had our ownidea of what style of club wewanted to be involved in. Aftersome research and discussionswith likeminded individuals wedecided there was enough inter-est to form our own club, and theidea was born. After months ofdiscussion, organisation and hardwork, a committee was formed, and the club was registered withthe Department of Fair Trading inFebruary of 2009.

I was pleased to see that therewas immediate interest in “TheRegals”, and it didn’t take long

Here is some information about my recently purchased VE Regal. I rang the grandfather of the girl who sold me the carand he gave me a long and overly detailed account of the cars history.

The car was originally purchased in August 1967 by Maurice Johnstone Senior in Canberra ACT from CommonwealthMotors and was the first VE Regal EVER to be on the road in Australia! He bought it after he retired to use as a week-end and holiday car. It lived with Maurice and Edna Johnstone in Forrest, ACT from 1967 till 1969.

In 1969 Maurice and Edna moved to Beacon Hill, NSW in which during that time it was stolen and found three dayslatter in Bankstown with the only damage being to the back drivers side window as this was the thieves point of en-try.

In 1971 they moved back to the ACT in the suburb of Holt. The VE stayed in Holt until Maurice Johnstone seniorpassed away in 1993 in which the settlement of his estate took place and the VE was passed onto his son, MauriceJohnstone Junior in 1994.

It was the taken back to NSW and stayed in Nowra where Maruice Junior lived and it was registered for 1 year withNSW plates.

Between 1995-99, the car was placed on blocks in storage and left unregistered for that time. In 1999 Maurice JNRmoved to the suburb of Chisholm, ACT where the car was moved again.

It was only driven a handful of times between 1999 to 2006 when he passed it on to his grand daughter Kate during2006. The car was transported to Waterford, QLD where Kate lived. She had it garaged and drove it very rarely inthose years. Kate's ex-husband was a Valiant die hard so he serviced the car and had minor panel repairs done. When Kate separated form her husband some time mid 2009 and when her daily car began to blow smoke, shelooked to sell the VE to fund a new car. She answered my Mopar Market ad and we struck a deal. I flew up and drovethe car back on the 28th August 2009 from Brisbane to Sydney with no major issues.

The car has the original paint except for minor panel repairs (front passenger quarter, passenger side under doorshave had attention). The tyres are from 1987 and haven't needed changing due to the low milage. They are what ison the car now. It is a genuine 20,000 mile engine. Passenger side door handle was replaced in the 1970's. All origi-nal service logs and receipts have come with the car.

There you have it! Some history there, all in the one family…. Vehicle now owned by Regal, Gordon Kyd.

‘Remember the past & celebrate thefuture’ was the Hunter Valley ChryslerClub saying for the 2009 Canton Beach -Wake Run, & celebrate we did, the fu-ture was in your face with black RegalsT shirts & Mopar tattoos no matterwhere you looked.

The Club members arrived with a repu-tation that takes others years to build,we were looked upon as newcomers, upcoming, young & vibrant & at thesame time a feared Mopar Car Club, with 2 of our members taking outawards in the top 10, this was the firststep to letting the world know who weare.

But it wasn’t all about the Regals, I mustmention a job well done to the HVCCfor organizing such a great day, & also athank you to all who made it out for theweekend, there was just over 100 Mo-pars in attendance.

The location was great, it was a beauti-ful sunny day by the water & entrantscars were gleaming & showing all theretrue potential, from the sexy 70 Cudasupercharger with its chrome shining

bright to a heavenly white interior of agorgeous red 70 Dodge superbee look-ing as nasty as it did almost 40 yearsago, but around every corner there wassomeone new to meet & talk to & it wasinteresting to hear about other Moparlovers cars.

To those of you who did not get achance to attend I hear the Regals La-dies & Gents had an awesome weekendwith some Friday & Saturday nightdrinking episodes, but I was impressed& happy to see all of them back onthere feet nice & early on Sunday morn-ing with there cars all lined up & readyto show them off.

It was 99% old school cars, in total therewere about 4 Mopars that were bornwithin the last 5 years from The DodgeNitro & Avenger to a couple of tidyChrysler 300’s & please don’t hurt mebut I must mention the PT Cruisers aswell.

All makes & models were on show, since it was not such a big outcome ofcars it was easier to enjoy the ones thatwere there, you only had a handful of

REGALS TORQUE Page 8

this & a handful of that, VH Charger RTto VG Hardtop Pacer, Regals to Town &Country, Dodge to Plymouth & Chrys-lers to Desotos, it was all there for youto see originals & replicas, Convertibles& Hardtops, Utes & wagons.

Overall a great show, I would love toattend again next year, the Hunter Val-ley guys & gals are a very friendly crowd& catered to everyone’s needs, it waswell run with no chaos or politics suchas some other shows I have attended.

See ya at Rollin Rumble…..

None.

When did you first get into Chryslers?

When I was about 12.

What enticed your loyalty to Mopars?

I was always a Mopar fan from the start. I’ve never really been into Holden’s or Fords, and I’ve only owned onecar that wasn’t a Val, and it’s my work car. Mopars command total respect, and the cars make it pretty easy forone to be loyal to the brand.

Current ride/s?

1970 VG 770 Regal Hardtop modified. 1970 VG Pacer Hardtop. 1997 Magna wagon work hack.

Vehicle specs?

1970 VG 770 Regal Hardtop

360ci 60thou over, mildly ported heads, match ported edelbrock 4 barrel manifold, Carter 625cfm AFB, mild cam, externally balanced, Romac balancer, belt drive, extractors, 2 ½ “ system with Hooker Aero Chambers, ½ inch fuelline. 4 speed single rail, standard clutch, shortened 9 “ diff with 3.25 lsd centre. The car is Hot Mustard with the T14 option (radial tyres). It currently runs a 265ci with a 4 speed. It needs a fullrestoration, which will commence in the following months.

Any builds on the go at the moment?

Just finished doing a V8/auto/disc brake conversion with my brother on his VC.

Any future project ideas?

Plenty!

If you could have any vehicle what would it be?

I’ll build it one day!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Hanging out with friends, playing with cars, improving my house, playing guitar and music, a quite drink now andthen (lol), the usual stuff.

Best Car event you have attended?

Powercruise is pretty hard to beat these days, but Top fuel drags and nostalgic drags are fun too.

What things would you like to see in a Car Club?

Exactly what I see in The Regals I suppose. Good people, cool cars, cool club house, families welcome, no hierar-chy, well organized and plenty of plans for the future. People should be proud of the club they are in.

Best vehicle you’ve ever owned?

I suppose my current Hardtop is, but my first hardtop is a sentimental favorite. It was an animal, but it looked likea heap of shit!

Any cars you regret selling?

Would anyone ever answer no to this question!? My old Hardtop I suppose.

Any Mopar vehicles have impressed you lately that you have seen at shows etc..?

Yes VGVAL a white mini tubbed VG sedan with triples on a 265 seen at COTM. I‘m sure there’s many more, butthat one that comes to mind.

Any words of advice for someone starting in the hobby?

Join The Regals! Seriously, align yourself with some decent people who know what they’re doing, or join a club to

make good contacts or you could end up handing over a lot of hard earned money for little reward.

Here’s a few pics of the first VG Pacer built. It is

body number VG-7-S-41-1 This car is still resid-

ing in Adelaide and currently under restoration.

The J42 Big Tank was not factory fitted but in-

stalled at a later date. It is a standard Pacer in

Hemi Orange with bonnet blackout mod pack

but not with A88 stripe package. A bit of an

oddball. Unfortunately the matching numbers

engine is long gone but this car was passed

down from Father to Son who is now restoring.

Hopefully this car will one day see it’s former

glory as this is an important piece of Chrysler

Australia motoring history.
