2 Priest Message

F R . G R E G P A F F E L ’ S N O T E !

Ash Wednesday four years ago, I sat down to pray our parish Lenten Chaplet for one of my family members. I liked it so much and it became so meaningful that I couldn’t help but develop it a little. You may pray the simple chaplet as you always have. But I wanted to share how I pray it in case you want a little more meditation with it.

As you enter Lent in a spirit of prayer, fasting and almsgiving remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross. For the next 40 days be encouraged to pray this chaplet for someone you love.

Holding the Cross Sign of the Cross

Apostles Creed Prayer of Intention

Oh my good Jesus, you are completely holy. Thank you for washing me with your Precious Blood. Please teach me how to pray from my heart to your Heart and grant your blessing to __________, for whom I pray. Then as I remember the last seven words you spoke upon the Cross, through my sorrow, give me hope in your Resurrection. Amen!

Meditate on the last seven words of Christ. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Matt 27:46, Mark 15:34) Recite the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be on three knots following each meditation. Father, forgive them, they know not what they do. (Luke 23:33) Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise. (Luke 23:43) Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. (Luke 23:46) Woman, behold, your son. . . . . Behold, your mother. (John 19:26-27) I thirst. (John 19:28) It is finished. (John 19:30) Final Prayers Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner! (three times) Sign of the Cross Then sometime between Holy Thursday and Easter give your chaplet to the one you for whom you prayed.

By the way, this year’s Crosses were purchased when I went to Jerusalem last year. They have been laid upon the birthplace of Christ, the crucifixion site, the place his body was prepared for burial, and in the tomb where he was buried and from which he rose from the dead. That makes them third class relics of our Lord four times over.

They are Russian style crosses. You will notice the short slanted bar at the bottom. Specifically, it represents the judgment of the good thief and the bad thief. Generally, it represents that all of us will also be judged when we die. “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

In our Father’s hands,☺ Fr. Greg

Wednesday-1:00 p.m.,
