Every team needs 1-2 text books from the closet.

Step one – read the question on the screen.

Step two – find the answer in the book.

Step three – have one person on your team stand up and be ready to share your answer.

Step four – Mrs. Godzik will show the correct answer on the screen. Please write it down on your notebook paper.

If the answer is correct, that team gets one point. If the answer is incorrect, the next team to stand will get to try and answer the question. If the answer is correct, that team gets the point.

Also found in cigarettes, pipes, cigars and chewing tobacco.

The user wants more and more of the nicotine in order to feel good.

What is the chemical that makes tobacco addicting and what is its

definition?

Nicotine is a stimulant which increases the

action of the central nervous system.

Nicotine speeds up the heart rate.

Nicotine can increase blood pressure.

Nicotine can cause heart attacks.

What is the relationship between nicotine and the heart?

Nicotine reaches the brain (through the blood) within

seconds.

Nicotine reduces the amount of oxygen that moves to the brain (causes strokes)

Nicotine interferes with (blocks) the flow of information to and from the brain.

Nicotine makes the brain addicted.

What is the relationship between nicotine and the

brain?

A thick, dark, oily liquid that forms when

tobacco burns.

It coats the lungs (makes them black).

It causes cancer.

What is tar?

What are alveoli?

Tiny air sacs in the lungs.

They take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide.

Tar coats the lungs and damages the alveoli.

The alveoli lose their ability to stretch and can’t absorb oxygen.

This creates a disease called Emphysema.

What is an artery?

A blood vessel that carries blood (and oxygen) from the heart to the rest of the body.

Healthy arteries are clear and stretchy.

Tar clogs the arteries and blood (oxygen) can

not get to the body parts and organs.

Tar hardens the arteries so they can’t stretch and push blood through.

This can lead to heart attacks and stroke.

Colorless, odorless gas.

It reduces the amount of oxygen in your body.

What is carbon monoxide?

Carbon monoxide reduces the amount of

oxygen available to the heart and brain.

Too much can kill you.

What is the relationship between carbon monoxide and the heart and

Smoke that comes from the burning end of the

cigarette / cigar / pipe.

Smoke that is exhaled by the smoker.

Second-hand smoke contains 4,000 chemicals and is just as dangerous as first-hand smoke.

People who live with smokers are more likely to have colds, asthma, ear infections and learning difficulties.

What is the definition of second-hand smoke

This chemical is why smoking is addictive.
