The first-year common curriculum, drawing on the best of the liberal arts
tradition, seeks to produce effective leaders capable of independent,
critical, and creative thinking. UIC students take small reading and
writing-intensive seminars in literature, philosophy, history, critical
reasoning, science literacy, and research methods.
UIC Seminars/ Senior Thesis
UIC seminars allow students to explore a wide range of subjects outside of
their major, benefiting from the cutting-edge research of their professors.
In addition, students can also take classes in the creative arts (writing,
filmmaking, music) or in career-oriented subjects (business, law). In their

that provide opportunities in arts, sports, and community service
beyond the classroom.

Sinchon Campus, while students from the Humanities, Arts, and
Social Sciences and Integrated Science and Engineering Fields continue
to take major courses at YIC.
Student Clubs·UIC sponsors a number of student clubs to give students opportunities
to gather and engage in activities outside the classroom.
