Bell Ringer

2. Please take out a piece of paper. Place your name in the upper right hand corner.

3. Write down 3 things about yourself that no one knows ( 2 things being the truth and 1 thing being a lie)

4. Fold the paper like a hamburger style5. Once you have folded your paper exchange it with the

person next to you. ( Do not open the paper until I tell you to.

Welcome to American History!Why do we study history?

History provides identity. Studying history improves our decision making and judgment. History shows us models of good and responsible citizenship. History also teaches us how to learn from the mistakes of others. History helps us understand change and societal development. History provides us a context from which to understand ourselves and others.

Operating procedures. • They are for entering the classroom, and

bathroom.• The other S.O.P I will tell you about a little

later on as class progresses.

Fire Drill Procedures

When you hear the alarm: Freeze and be silent. When I call for you walk silently in a single file line. Do not lose your class. When we line up at our destination you will be silent still. NO TALKING. I will call roll. When I call your name please say here and raise your hand. It is important that you do both things. When we are allowed to exit we still walk in a single file line. You may whisper now, but do not yell. Return to class promptly and with the rest of your class.If you do not show up for roll call during the fire drill you will receive a referral.This is a serious matter!

Classroom Expectations• Classroom Procedures:• When you see me raise my hand that is your cue to STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN.• Raise your hand and wait to be called on to talk or leave your seat.• As soon as you are seated, get out needed materials and begin immediately on the day’s

essential quote writing activity.• I dismiss this class, not the bell.• To use the restroom you must follow S.O.P (standard operating procedure), obtain

permission, sign out, and take the complete hall pass. Restroom breaks will only be permitted at appropriate times unless it’s an emergency. (No rest room 10 before/after bell rings.) Only one person out of the room at a time, those students who abuse the restroom privilege will lose it.

• No cell phones or electronic devices are allowed in this classroom unless given permission by me. (If I see it I will take it!)

• Please spit your gum out before coming into the classroom.• Turn in all completed assignments to the (IN) basket for your period. • No food or drinks will be allowed in the classroom unless medically necessary. (Please show

appropriate documentation to me/office.)

Absence Policy

• check the board for the previous day’s activities• Talk with me BEFORE or AFTER class/school.• You are responsible for getting missed

assignments and finding out what you missed. • You have three days from your excused absence

to make up any work. If your absence is unexcused I will give you 1 day to make up work.

Missing/Late Work

• Late Work will be accepted up to 3 days after the due date.

• 1st Day Late = Highest Score 90• 2nd Days Late = Highest Score 80• 3rd Days Late = Highest Score 70• I will not except any work later than 3 days • (Points will not be deducted only when student has

an excused absence from that previous day and the student was not aware of the assignment prior to the absence.)

Steps for Coming into Class• 1st- Enter Class quickly and quietly• 2nd Take your seat• 3rd Take out your notebook• 4th Get your pencil ready to write (Sharpen it now)• 5th Open up your book to the Essential Learning section• 6th Begin reading the Essential quote for the day Make sure you

understand what the author is say. Think about what it means to you and how you can apply it in your life.

• 7th Begin writing the quote and your response to the quote (you have six minutes)

• 8th Place pencil down and look forward. (wait for further instruction in silence this is not a talking time respect your classmates who are still writing)
