  • Welcome to Wednesfield High’s Guide to Remote Learning!

    On the following slides you’ll find information to support your child with accessing work at home using our new Student Portal. Information provided includes how to access email and the student portal from home, as well as a section on each subject taught in the curriculum at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

    Each subject across Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 has provided information on how to access work including an overview of how work will be set, any other online resources your child can access as well as a useful contact email address.

    We have also provided access information for the main online resources subject teachers may suggest to support theirlessons including: Hegarty, SENECA and GCSE Pod.

  • General Overview:

    The student portal is the main location for the work that is shared by your subject teachers.

    The student portal contains work for each year group in each subject and is regularly updated to ensure that work is available for the whole of the academic year.

    Which students need to access this?

    All students will need to use the student portal to access the resources which have been uploaded by the subject teachers.

    Any instructions?

    Open up a web browser (Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc).Go to www.wednesfieldacademy.co.ukClick on the ‘Student portal and learning resources’ drop-down menu and then click on ‘Student portal and learning resources’.Scroll down and click on the ‘student portal’ button.Enter your username and password when it’s requested.Click on the tile for your year group.Click on the required subject.Click on the ‘teach cycles’ folder.Access the required folder for the week which you are currently in.

    Teachers will regularly use the school email system to communicate with students.

    Any work being sent to staff should be emailed via the school email accounts.

    All students will need to access their email in order to effectively communicate with their form tutor and subject teachers.

    Expertly written, knowledge rich content for 27 GCSE/ IGCSE subjects, GCSEPod make it easy to blend learning and revise from wherever you are, on any device and is particularly suited to remote learning.

    The ability to build knowledge in sequence through our unique pods, enables retention and recall when it is most needed.

    Which students need to access this?

    All students in the Academy have access to GCSEPod. Teaching staff can set assignments for students to complete. These assignment will include pods for students to watch and then follow up questions for them to answer.

    How to access GCSE Pod:To access GCSEPod for the first time follow the instructions below:1. Go to https://members.gcsepod.com and ‘New Here? Get Started!’2. Enter your first name and surname, date of birth and confirm the school’s name. Your school name should appear in a drop down list, click on the school name in the list to confirm it.If you’re having trouble finding your school name, double check you’ve entered your date of birth and full name as it appears on the school register. For example, you may be known as Alex but your full name maybe Alexandra.3. Create a username, password and password hint.4. You have option to add a Password Reset Email. In the event you forget your password, you can reset it with teacher intervention.5. Click Save.When you need to access GCSEPod to after that just go to https://members.gcsepod.com and enter your details to log in.

    All Maths staff will set weekly tasks on our main online home-learning platform HegartyMaths, students can also watch videos of any skills they have seen in lessons or online.www.hegartymaths.com

    Which students need to access this?

    All KS3 and KS4 students, specific KS5 pupils for A-Level Mathematics as well as GCSE re-sit students.

    Any instructions?• Students visit the website www.hegartymaths.com• Click on ‘student login’• Type in your details such as school, name, DOB• Then create your own password• Students are then able to complete ‘tasks’ either set by their teacher or clip numbers they

    want to view themselves • Students can re-set their password by selecting reset or comment on homework for

    teachers to comment back upon, if students would like more work this can also be done here by selecting the teacher you wish to contact

  • General Overview:

    Seneca Learning is a learning platform designed in collaboration with neuroscientists from Oxford, Cambridge and UCL.

    The online platform is a bit like an interactive textbook or revision guide.

    It contains summaries, notes, videos and hundreds of practice questions. This means that Seneca combines revision guides, quizzes and videos with scientifically proven learning techniques.

    Which students need to access this?

    Resources are available for all subjects currently taught at Wednesfield and cover KS3-KS5

    How to Access Seneca:

    There are two ways in which you can access Seneca. www.senecalearning.com

    1) If your teacher is setting you an assignment, they will send you a code to enter onto the Seneca website. This will then take you to the assignment to complete.

    2) You can also access the website without an assignment being set. Simply go to senecalearning.com, click on “Students, use for free” and select which subject and topics you wish to study.

    Students will need to access the student portal and complete the lesson for that week.

    Year 10 – working on individual portfolios for component 1 and can contact staff via email for individual advice/feedback on work

    Year 11 – Completing component 1 and creating digital portfolios including images of work and annotation for moderation.can contact staff via email for individual advice/feedback on work

    All students in Business have access to lesson resources from the student portal that follow a specific scheme of work. Specific groups will also have resources available through files on Microsoft Teams.

    Teachers also set weekly tasks through the student portal and via email. Teachers can also direct students to seek support on the GCSEpod platform or BBC Bitesize.

    Which students need to access this?

    All students in KS4 and KS5 that have opted to take Business as a qualification.

    Any instructions?

    • Business staff expect students to also have access to their emails to interact on a weekly basis covering lessons and skills that have been set.

    • All students MUST be actively responding and sending completed work to teachers. Students will be directed by email as to where and what work is being set.

    • All students have access to GCSEpod and should have a username and password set up .

    • Students can use GCSEpod as support for their learning by watching Pods for relevant topic. BBC Bitesize also provide support for students learning.

  • General Overview:In Years 7 and 8 we follow the National Curriculum which is delivered chronologically over the two years. In Year 7 students cover the various topics such as natural resources to geography a curse or benefit. In Year 8 students cover river, development and Asia.

    GCSE students follow the Eduqas specification (Years 9 &10) and AQA specification (Year 11). There are three themes to this course which we spread out over the three / two years.

    Year 9 and 10 will be taught the content related to Theme 1: The Human World.

    Year 11 are currently finalising Paper 1 content related to coasts and rivers. Following this students will begin to complete content from Paper 2 (Human) and Paper 3 (closer to Easter)

  • General Overview:In Years 7 and 8 we follow the National Curriculum which is delivered chronologically over the two years. In Year 7 students cover topics from the Medieval Period and continue through chronologically until they finish with WWII in Year 8.

    GCSE students follow the Eduqas specification. There are four elements to this course which we spread out over the three years.Year 9: Elizabethan Age and Germany in TransitionYear 10 study : Germany in Transition and the Development of the USA.Year 11: Study Crime and Punishment Through Time.
