Dear Friends,
These are trying days. As I write, a
strong wind is howling outside. It is
cold and harsh. I think it sadly
represents the state of things in the
Church and it’s influence in this
country. Instead of being salt and
light, too often we have become
lukewarm and indistinguishable
from the culture. Too often, we cave
in to the cravings of constant
stimulation, materialism, and
narcissistic worship of the unholy
trinity of me, myself and I. This letter
is a gentle call to genuine surrender
to the Light that has come into the
world to dispel the darkness.
I won’t belabor the point with too many
examples. You already know. Parents
already know of the challenges of
raising kids in a world of crowded
schedules that fail to prioritize the
worship of God at the top of the “To
Do’s”. Young people know of the
confusion of respecting those in
authority who lack moral and spiritual
congruence or who fail to
acknowledge a divine source of
absolute truth. Surely, senior adults
know and lament the loss of simpler
days when saying “Merry Christmas”
was considered a joyous greeting
instead of a demeaning insult toward
those of differing faiths or of no faith at
all. Thus, we are tempted to appease
rather than to appeal based on the
promised hope that we have:
“In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. 2 He was in the beginning
with God. 3 All things came into being
through him, and without him not one
thing came into being. What has come
into being 4 in him was life, and the life
was the light of all people. 5 The light
shines in the darkness, and the
darkness did not overcome it.”
John 1:1-5
This season I appeal to you based on
the authority of God’s Word: Press on
good and faithful stewards of the
Light. Darkness will not win out in the
end. The Light will guide you home. I
pray so especially this Christmas. May
you grow strong in the glow of His
love. May you share that Light in the
journey ahead. Opposite this page is
listed such an opportunity.
Christmas Blessings!
Todd

Church Clergy and Congregation:
The Meals on Wheels program is in need of volunteers, to deliver hot nutritious
meals to our home bound elderly population. A person can deliver meals for one hour a day,
one hour a week, once a month, we can use their help.
“Can you commit to an hour a week and drive a vehicle, Meals on Wheels needs your help
volunteering to deliver hot meals to elderly residents in Sioux City. Please call Stan at:
712-279-6900 Ext .8237
For the Meals on Wheels Program, a commitment from a person is for as little as an hour a
week. Routes can be shared with another person if so desired. We appreciate anytime you
can volunteer to deliver meals for us. The smile of gratitude from those receiving the meals
will make it worth your time.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Stan Wisnieski, Volunteer Recruiter Connections Area Agency on Aging, Inc.

I can't thank you enough for your generous support that I received from your church people. We wouldn't be where
we are today without your support. You'll never know what it meant when we received grocery cards, Wal-Mart cards, gas cards assistance with our fuel bill and help with my car to get it winterized and of course, your
prayers. From the bottom of my heart I am extremely grateful. Vanessa

Many thanks to those who responded to Dee Ashley’s appeal on September 29th. Vanessa was deeply appreciative
of the $600.00 worth of cash, gift cards and auto service that she received . It was a great help in meeting her many needs. If you didn't get a chance to help Vanessa and her 2 children, we are keeping that door open and if you
would still like to contribute, you may leave it in the church office or with Gail or Laurice Streyffeler or myself. God bless you Dear Servant. Dee Ashley

our services. We are truly thankful for Connie and all of the other volunteers who have “stepped up and
stepped out” in the area of media. As we move forward and anticipate updating equipment we may
need volunteers to help Ko with the equipment. We will request volunteers again at that time.
Thanks again Connie and all the other volunteers for your dedication, time and talent.
