He Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed! - April 19, 2015 Welcome to Worship at St. Matthew’s Welcome to Worship as Easter People - the family of our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Amen. Jesus has the final say - and the final victory - over the powers of sin and death. Introduction for Easter Day: The gospel for the third Sunday of Easter is always one in which the risen Christ shares food with the disciples, meals that are the Easter template for the meal we share each Lord’s Day. In today’s gospel, Jesus both shares the disciples’ food and shows them the meaning of his suffering, death, and resurrection through the scriptures: the two main elements of our Sunday worship. Communion: All baptized Christians who celebrate the real presence of Christ in the bread and wine are invited to the Lord’s Table at the 11:00 service. Gluten-free wafers are available if you ask your communion server. Those who desire juice instead of regular wine, please tell this to the communion assistant. Due to the weight of the communion trays, you may be asked to take your glass of wine from the tray as it is presented to you. Flowers at the altar are given by Steve and Betty Williams in honor of their 45th wedding anniversary; and by Suzanne Hansen in memory of her mother, Sophie Wiegand Hansen’s birthday. A Library book has been given to the church library by Diann Lebow in honor of her grandson Owen Oakland’s 10th birthday. A library book has been given to the church library by Kevin and Beth Wisniewski in celebration of Henry’s 3rd birthday. Why are some people wearing nametags? We wear nametags on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month in order for us to know more people on Sunday mornings. Please put on a nametag and greet someone new! Hunger Baskets to be passed today: When the offering plates are passed later in the service, it is followed by a basket for a special collection. This second collection will be directed toward local and world hunger. Our congregation has a long history of giving toward hunger relief and we thank you for your faith-filled response to continue this tradition. Thanks to Pr. Ray Stubbe for sharing the pussy willow arrangements you see today. They are the sallx discolor type known to have the largest buds. Thanks for adding some more of God’s natural beauty to our worship space.

True solutions to homelessness start at the daytime center. Homeless members govern our center, with nurturing and direction, creating an atmosphere of dignity, respect and understanding. Homeless people must have a voice, and at the center the voices of the voiceless are amplified. Homeless members help each other, in a demonstration of “homeless helping homeless,” drawing on many program services to create a healing path specific to the individual. Homeless members tell center staff what they need to make their daytime “home” a welcoming and productive place, so they can become connected and self-sufficient citizens. Come to hear more

Alelluia! He is Risen!Easter Message is Proclaimed in Stairway DisplaysThe stairways, which have been intentionally blank for the reflective season of Lent will come alive on Easter morning with a colorful proclamation of the Easter message of Jesus’ resurrection. Banners illustrating the ancient Easter greeting: “Alleluia! He is risen! He is risen indeed!” will greet you in the main staircase, backed by a swag of purple fabric reminding us that from the season of Lent new life emerges. Color washed butterflies, a symbol of new life, will flutter around the alleluias. The butterflies were made by 6th – 8th graders, using handprints to form the shape of the butterflies. In the central staircase, more butterflies will frame the joyous mes-sage of Alleluia. We thank the middle school Sunday School classes for their “hands on” art that colorfully celebrates the joy of Easter.

If you can help at any of these times, or if you have a truck or van to help with transporting items, please contact the church office.

Join the NAMI Walk in memory of Eric KlothBy Doris and Luther Kloth“Eric, our eldest son, suffered from mental illness for 20 years. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness played a huge role in his life. NAMI, Greater Milwaukee Chapter helped Eric get better care and housing and gave him a sense of purpose. Eric spoke about living with mental illness to groups all over Milwaukee in the In Our Own Voice program. His mission was to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness, a stigma he constantly felt. This year we are again continuing Eric’s mission by having a team, Remembering Eric Kloth in the NAMIwalks. The NAMIwalks is being held on Saturday, May 16th at Veterans Park, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive. Registration is from 9:30 to 11 and the walk begins at 11. We invite you to participate by donating to our team and/or walking with us on May 16. You can donate and register in advance to walk online at namiwalks.nami.org/rememberingerickloth or mail your donations to Luther and Doris Kloth, 2205 North 71st Street, Wauwatosa, WI 53213. We appreciate your support. Thank you.”

Flower Book Sign-Ups NeededYour Sign-Ups are needed for the altar flower/library book/CD sign-up notebook! Want to honor a loved one or show someone you care? Designate altar flowers for them, or a library book. Sign up in the Binder at the Information Center. For a donation of $30.00, you may designate altar flowers, or for $15.00 a library book or a compact disc for an occasion of your choosing, and this occasion will be listed in the Sunday bulletin. The Library Committee will select the book and a bookplate will be placed in the front of the book. The church office staff orders the flowers from A New Leaf Floral each week or, during the summer months, local flowers are provided by volunteers. Proceeds of the flower designation donations go toward Sustainability projects supported through the Care for Creation team. It is best if you pay for your donations on the designated Sunday or before. Place a check in the offering plate and mark its purpose of payment, or drop off your payment in the office during the week. Thanks.

Cross Lutheran Church monthly luncheon:It’s become clear that disposable dishes are the best way to donate food for the meal at Cross on the 4th Wednesday of each month. As hard as the servers try to get the pans washed and returned to church, it is easy to miss one or two or leave something at Cross. An alternative to disposable is to take a container from the boxes outside the office (without someone’s name on it), which are dishes used previously but not picked up.

Men: A great way to begin your week - The Monday Morning Men’s Bible Study meets each Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. to study, to discuss, to share. All men are welcome. For more information, call Mark Petersen, 476-7299 or Bill Brown, 774-4017.

A note about your valuable items: A reminder to our members and guests that each week as you come to church, any valuable items should be kept with you and not left in coat pockets or in an unlocked space.

Pop Top Collection: After a hiatus from collecting soda pop can pull tabs, we will resume the collection at this time. These pop tabs are given to the Ronald McDonald House toward the good work they do in housing out-of-town families of patients at Children’s Hospital. The collection spot will be at the entrance of the Education wing, near the other recycling and Reformation pick-up area.

Rise with the Guys” Men’s BreakfastSaturday, May 9th 7:30 am – 9:00 amSpeaker: Pastor Ray StubbePr. Ray will recount highlights of his 50 years of ministry. Ordained on June 6th, 1965, his ministry included the organization of a mission church in Oak Creek, All Saints Lutheran Church, a career as a Navy Chaplain which included the costliest battle of the Vietnam War, service on ships, on an air station, with Navy SEALs, and at a Naval training center. This was followed by extensive calling on numerous elderly shut-ins of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, and much work with veterans. The fifty years of ministry involved many unusual activities not normally part of a minister’s life. Pastor Stubbe will recount some of the interesting events and people over a period of his fifty years as an ordained minister. Next Sunday - New Creation Choir Musical - Don’t miss it!On Sunday, April 26, at the 8:30 and 11:00 services the New Creation choir invites the St. Matthew’s family to learn about Daniel from the Bible. One of the most loved stories from the Old Testament is the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den. The king, Darius, really liked Daniel, but Daniel had enemies who were jealous of Daniel’s wisdom and power. Daniel’s enemies thought up a plan to get rid of Daniel. They proposed a new law that said people could only pray to King Darius. Whoever broke the new law would be punished by being thrown into a lion’s den.Daniel continued to pray to God and his enemies knew it. After the law was signed they arrested Daniel. Though King Darius never intended for Daniel to stop worshiping his God, Daniel was thrown into the den of lions while the king worried for his well-being. The Bible tells us that Daniel was not harmed by the lions at all. When the king came to see Daniel the next morning he was relieved to know that Daniel was still alive.Come and support our children sharing this Bible story with the congregation on April 26 at the 8:30 & 11:00 services.

Choir Musical on April 26 - 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.You haven’t seen this Bible story about Daniel presented like this!

“Daniel in the Lion’s Den”A Musical Presented by

St. Matthew’s New Creation ChoirSunday, April 26th, 2015

8:30 & 11:00 Services

There may be times in our life when we don’t do what God intended for us, but we all should take encouragement from the story of Daniel and trust in our God to take care of us. Daniel didn’t know what would happen to him in the lion’s den, he only trusted that God would take care of him and God did. We all can trust God as well.

Come and support our children sharing this Bible story with the congregation on April 26 at the 8:30 & 11:00 services.

The king, Darius, really liked Daniel, but Daniel had enemies who were jealous of Daniel’s wisdom and power. Though he did not always agree with Daniel and his God, King Darius allowed Daniel to worship God as he pleased. Daniel’s enemies thought up a plan to get rid of Daniel. They proposed a new law that said people could only pray to King Darius. Whoever broke the new law would be punished by being thrown into a lion’s den.
