ThetendaysoffestivitiesleadingintoSuperBowlLIwillsometimesbechallenging,butitwillbehugelyrewarding.Asasuperstarvolunteer,yougettobeapartoftheteamthatmadeithappen.Themoreweembracethisonce-in-a-lifetimeopportunityandenjoyit,thewarmerthewelcomeandexperiencewillbeforeveryone.

WelcometoSuperBowlLI!EventhoughtherehavebeenlargeeventsinHoustonbefore,includingtwopreviousSuperBowls,thisspectaclewillbeofamagnitudethecityhasneverseenbefore.

Fromthebeginning,wehaveplannedtoexceedthegreatestofexpectationsandprovideanunparalleledSuperBowlexperiencetoeveryonewhocomestoHouston.Whetheritbevisitingfans,players,teamowners,leagueofficialsorourfellowHoustonians,it’sourgoaltoprovidethemwithagreattimeandmakewanttocomebackanddoitagainafterthegameisplayed.

Forthattohappenrequiresanincredibleamountofpreparationcoveringlogistics,traffic,security,entertainmentandinformation.Asvolunteers,youwillbeatthecrossroadsofallthoseaspectsofSuperBowlLI,andanintegralpartofourplantohostanexceptionalexperienceforeveryone.

Becauseyouwillbeindirectcontactwiththepeoplesoimportanttoourmission,itisimperativetomakesureyouunderstandtheoverallplanandcancommunicatethenecessaryinformationquicklyandeasily.

EventsliketheSuperBowlareincrediblyimportanttothehostcityforanumberofreasons.TheeconomicimpactwillbeabigplusfortheareaaspeopleflocktoHoustonforthegameandfestivities.Itraisestheprofileofthecityacrossthecountryandaroundtheworld.HoustonwillbecomepartoftheconversationduringSuperBowlWeekandwehaveanimportantroleinshapingtheconversationandshowcaseourcityinawaythatisn’tpossiblewithoutthisevent.

LastyearSuperBowl50servedasayear-longretrospectiveofthegame.The50-yardlinesweregoldandtherewasaconcertedefforttolookbackatthefirsthalf-centuryofthisgame.BecauseofthistheHostCommitteehasalwayslookedatSuperBowlLIasthefirstSuperBowlofthenext50years.TheSuperBowloftheFutureintheCityoftheFuture.

Demographically,present-dayHoustonrepresentswhattherestoftheUnitedStateswilllooklikeinthecomingdecades.Houstonisthemostdiversecityinthenationwithmorepeopleflockingherefromaroundtheglobeeveryday.Asdiverseasthecityis,footballisaunifyingforceinthecommunity.Thisisfootballcountryandtherootsofthegamerundeephere.When

combiningsomethingsoimportanttothecommunityandourdesiretowelcomeguestsandshowoffourcity,greatthingscanhappen.Andtheywill,startinginlateJanuary.

ThebiggestpartiesduringSuperBowlweekwillbecenteredindowntownHoustonwithSuperBowlLIVEandtheNFLExperienceDrivenbyGenesis.

SuperBowlLIVEisthefreefanfestivalanchoredinDiscoveryGreenandextendingallthewaytoRootPark.Therewillbeconcerts,food,exhibitsandanoutofthisworldridethatcombinesvirtualrealitywithadroptower.

TheNFLExperienceDrivenbyGenesisistheNFL’sticketedinteractivefanexperiencewithgames,HallofFamedisplays,exhibits,playerappearancesandautographsessionsandmuchmore.ThiswillbelocatedinsidetheGeorgeR.BrownConventionCenter.

AttendanceatSuperBowlLIVEisexpectedtotop1millionpeopleoverthecourseofthe10daysleadinguptoSuperBowlLI.Withsomanypeoplecomingdowntownwehaveworkedhardtoprovideacomprehensivetrafficandtransportationplancalled“KnowBeforeYouGo”whichprovidespreferredroutesandparkingareasintodowntownaswellasseveralshuttle,busandrail,andalternativeoptionsforfanstoattendtheevents.ThisdocumentwillbesharedonyourvolunteerportalaspartofyourtrainingmaterialsandwillalsobeincludedontheHostCommittee’swebsiteandontheSuperBowlApp.

Thesewillbethelargest,butnottheonlyeventsheldduringSuperBowlweek.OtherNFLeventsincludeOpeningNightFueledbyGatoradeatMinuteMaidParkonMonday,Jan.30.ThisistheevolutionofMediaDay,itisnowaticketedevent,opentothepublicandisthefirstchancetoseebothteamsinHoustonbeforeSuperBowlLI.

ThenightbeforetheSuperBowltherearetwomorelargeNFLevents,NFLHonorsandtheTasteoftheNFL.NFLHonorswillbeheldattheWorthamCenterdowntownandiswherealltheendofseasonawardswillbehandedout.ItisalsowherethenextProFootballHallofFameclassisannounced.

TheTasteoftheNFLwillbeheldattheUniversityofHoustonandwillfeaturecelebritychefsandformerplayersfromeachNFLcitywithproceedsbenefitingfoodbanksineachcity.

Attheendoftheweekisthebigevent,SuperBowlLI.HoustonisnostrangertohostingtheSuperBowl,thisisthethirdtimethegamehasbeenplayedhere.SuperBowlVIIIwasplayedatRiceStadiumwiththeMiamiDolphinsbeatingtheMinnesotaVikings,and30yearslaterSuper

BowlXXXVIIIwasplayedatReliant(nowNRG)StadiumwiththeNewEnglandPatriotsbeatingtheCarolinaPanthers.TheAFChaswoneachSuperBowlplayedhereinHoustonandeachteamthatwonherealsowoneithertheyearbeforeorafter.TheDolphinswereaperfect17-0whentheywonSuperBowlVII,andthePatriotsbeatthePhiladelphiaEaglesinSuperBowlXXXIX.SuperBowlLIwillalsobeplayedatNRGStadium.
