It’s often said that when we make plans, God laughs. Some-times, we make plans without considering God at all. But other times, we think our plans make sense with what we think God wants to do with our lives. But, if we haven’t consulted with God about our plans, chances are He has something bigger and better in mind for us.

Israel’s King David enjoyed a special relationship with God. At this point in scripture—after countless battles, setbacks and re-treats—David finally had a firm grasp of the throne. No matter the circumstance, David kept praising God, writing many beautiful works of praise to the true King.

God may steer your plans elsewhere, but His plans and pur-poses are always greater.

So when David realized God was just living in a tent for years while David was living in a palace, he knew something needed to be done (2 Samuel 7:2). David figured his next step would be to get to work on the temple, but God had better plans.

Rather than allow David to build God’s house, God assigned that to David’s successor, who would be one of David’s sons. What’s even more special is God declared David’s line would continue for-ever, as Jesus would eventually take the throne.

David never got to see the temple come to fruition during his lifetime, but he was assured of a greater honor—the promise of hav-ing his bloodline continue forever (2 Samuel 7:16).

God may steer your plans elsewhere, but His plans and pur-poses are always greater. And when we continually submit our plans to Him, He’ll turn those into greater blessings than we could ever hope for or imagine.
