Orientation of Weld Symbols If a symbol has a vertical line in it, the

vertical line is always on the left

Field Weld

A weld that is not performed at the place of initial construction

Weld All Around

Weld extending completely around the joint

All around is assumed on joints containing round parts

Multiple Reference Lines

Indicates a sequence of operations First operation is closest to the arrow

Tail of the Welding Symbol

Used to put information for process, specifications or other reference information

Contours Obtained by Welding

Flat symbol is typically horizontal above or below weld symbolConvex curves toward ref line, Concave curves away from ref line

Break in Arrow Line

Used to show which part is to be prepared Points toward part that will have a process

done to it before the weld is applied (where the groove will be)

Fillet Weld

Triangular shaped weld that goes in a corner

Use for : lap jointscorner jointsT joints

Weld length and pitch

Square Groove Weld

A weld placed between the two members of a butt joint

Gap between the parts is called a root opening

V-Groove

Weld placed in a v-shaped groove between 2 parts

Double V-groove

*Root opening only appears once on symbol

Bevel Groove

One member of the joint has a groove in it

U Groove

Weld in a u shaped groove between two parts

J Groove

J shaped groove in on part of the joint
