Wellington High School Uniform has now Changed Sport Polos

There is a new Sport Polo that will be available for purchase in the middle of Term 4 2015. We have gone back to the original design due to our parents and students liking this style and being able to provide them at a cheaper price. They will be available to purchase for $25.00 each The sizes will range from Children's size10 to size16 and Adults sizes S - XXL . When purchasing a shirt comparing these to our old polos the sizes are 1 size bigger. ( So the medium of a new one would be the same as a large in the old.) The current school polos are still available and still remain part of the school uniform. Also the pleated drop waist skirts are no longer available from our supplier. We do still have some available in various sizes and at the moment we are sourcing a new supplier for the summer season. Lately we have had delays in orders due to suppliers and our office being short staffed. Sorry for any inconvenience, we will get these to you as soon as possi-ble.

REAL MADRID FOUNDATION SOCIAL SCHOOLS TRAINING

Staff and students alike were excited to kick off the Real Madrid Foundation training program in the latter half of this term. We have consistently had around 30 students initially take part in the program, however it is not too late to become involved if students are interested. Recently, the educational component of all sessions has revolved around the River Systems in all States and Territories within Australia. Students have learnt some of the major rivers in each state and territory, and were introduced to the concept of tidal changes in our rivers this week. Socially, we have been encouraging students to create positive relationships within their training groups and always participate to the best of their ability within those groups. The technical and tactical component has predominantly focused on correct technique for passing and receiving the ball, whilst the laws of the game have been reinforced in a variety of modified games and activities. The following photos show students involved in skills based activities and their stretching

procedures.

This term Room 5 and Mrs McNamara are exploring the wonders of gardens. Corey Wilkinson, Peter Gorman, Sean Jamieson and Patrick Large have been planting vegetables and making their own compost. By the end of term we will have transplanted our seedlings into the garden bed and will use our compost as fertiliser. To fully appreciate the garden the boys are creating their very own garden artwork to decorate the classroom wall. Well done room 5.

Tom Kemp Cup Hockey

On the 21st August the Under 16’s girls’ team travelled to Bathurst to compete in the Tom

Kemp Cup Junior Hockey tournament. They had an early start, 6.45 am, but had a slight hold up when 2 girls forgot their mouthguards, a rather essential item. Once we had obtained those we were on our way, with one other pick up on the way. Once in Bathurst, the girls were playing on the sand based turf and were a little nervous about falling over and skinning their knees, hands, and other body parts. However, the day went off without anyone falling over – bonus. Our first game was against Delroy, rather ironic travelling all that way to play a Dubbo team. They were quite a polished side and we were still finding our feet again and were happy with a 4-0 score to Delroy. Our second game was rather a nostalgic one for Mrs Lyons as we were versing her old hockey coach against Kelso 2. This was a very evenly fought match with Kelso scoring literally in the dying minutes of the game with the score being 1-0 to Kelso. Our final game was against Blayney, a very polished side. Again we were defeated, but by this game our midfield had improved and we were making many more successful tackles. The score in this game was also 4-0 but we were pleased with that as Blayney had beaten other teams 5 and 6-0. We did have some scoring chances with Ashleigh Parkes, Emily Morrison and Grace Russell getting to the circle, but being unable to put it in the net. Sophie Hawke again had a great day in goals, at times not even realising she had saved goals. She was ably supported with the naturally talented backs of Madi Hannelly and Arlie Clout. However it was our midfield who showed the greatest improvement throughout the day. Nikyah Hutchings was tackling superbly by the final game, her extra practice at home showing through, well supported by Kaitlyn Barrett and Georgia Knijff in centre half. The outside halves of Rylee Moore, Felicity Langlands also put in blinders. Our star of the day would had to have been Eden Spargo, who only came into the team a couple of weeks before we left. She had never picked up a hockey stick, but by the end was tackling and hitting with confidence. I would like to offer my congratulations to the girls who played the day with great

sportsmanship and they represented Wellington High School admirably.

Careers Corner It has been a very busy term in Careers for all students, parents and teachers. Opportunities have not been limited to the students and many students have taken these on with open arms. We have had many days both in and out of schools visiting tertiary institutions, workplaces and career workshops. Year 12 have also come to their final term of schooling; they have been busy with trial exams, UAC applications, Early Entry Applications and Scholarship searching. I am sending a huge good luck message out to Year 12 for their HSC and new adventures once their exams are finished. Careers Facebook page Another exciting thing that has happened in Careers is the Wellington High School Careers Facebook page. This will have relevant information for all students throughout Years 7 – 12 in regards to anything happening in Careers. Go on and search WELLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS in the search bar , like our page and share it with all your friends and family. Future Directions Dubbo – Year 9 On 2

nd September 17 Year 9 students travelled to Charles Sturt University in Dubbo to participate

in the Future Directions Day which is a part of our Future Moves program. Students chose areas of interest to participate in workshops and gain understanding of what a career may be like in that area and what is required of them at University within that degree. The students were very well behaved and had a good time experimenting in the areas of Nursing, Social Work, Wiradjuri Language, Drama, Education and Media.

WELLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL ON SHOW

On Friday 4th and Saturday 5

th September we held a display of our students work showcasing

both academic and creative arts at the Soldiers Memorial Club. In all it was a great success with a number of community members and parents coming through to view the display. We had a lucky door prize of a $50 voucher to the 75 on Arthur Restaurant at the club which was won by S.Townsend. A huge thankyou to the Soldiers Club who provided the hall for us and assisted in the promotion of the displays. Thank you to the parents, students, staff and community members who came along to support the school on the nights. Also a huge well done to the students who provided their hard work for display and made dips for guests. Mandy Perkins
