When and how did you first start baking?I started baking when I was a kid. I would help my mom bake
Christmas cookies. She usually makes a dozen or so different
cookie recipes every year, each taken from our family
cookbook our family has been making since the 1950s. It gets
added to every so often with new favorites!
What is your favorite thing to bake?Macarons are my specialty! They were hard to make initially,
which I saw as a challenge. Now that I’ve got a reliable recipe
and technique, I like to make them for special occasions.
Do you have an example of a bake gone wrong? In
college, my roommate and I tried to make strawberry cake.
We realized mid-recipe that we were out of vegetable oil so
we used olive oil instead. The finished product was horrible—
it tasted more like olives than strawberries!
Congratulations to
Katherine Dalzotto on
winning the 2019 Great
Wisconsin Bake-Off! Her
Birthday Cake French
Macarons were quite the
hit!
