Easter Worship Services

10:30 AM Morning Worship Service

From Pastor Chip Some years ago, I went to the Derby Dinner Playhouse, which is a theatrical performance where you sit down, have a meal, and enjoy a play with live actors. The show we watched was about a church and her members, set in the 1940’s. It was entertaining and funny, but it presented a view of the church which, I’m afraid, is the pre-vailing view of most people. Here is how things were portrayed.

Pastor: The pastor was presented as a weak, almost effeminate man who was always nervous. He was por-trayed as a nitwit, but a nice guy that everyone felt sorry for. He was not respected in the least, and was made fun of by members of his own congregation . . . and he was oblivious to it all. He considered his only job in the world was to help people get along with one another. He was the Rodney King of his time, his mantra being, “Can’t we just all get along?”

People: The people were not much better. Every discussion was about earthly things. Betty Sue gossiped about Brenda May’s son, and Pastor Nitwit had to come put out the fire. The members were clannish and acted suspicious when the town ne’er-do-well attended a service. The people’s whole perception of the church revolves around this idea: I must go to church in order to get to heaven. So they go through the motions, make the best of a boring ritual that God has designed for us to suffer through, and look with great anticipation past the proclamation of God’s Word (which, in this case, was more like VBS for adults) to the fellowship meals where they can gorge themselves and collect (or distribute, but not dispel) the latest rumors and gossip.

Worship: Corporate worship consisted of whispering more gossip to one another, yawning through drone-tone songs with apathy, and raising their hands to share the latest gossip, always cloaked as a prayer request, of course. It was reminiscent of an AA meeting where everyone talked about how bad things were. It had a social club feel where nothing of spiritual significance took place at all.

Sadly, this is the view that many have regarding the church (or else there wouldn’t be a satirical show devoted to the subject). Is that what the Christian existence is all about? Where is the majesty of God in that church? Where is the sufficiency of Christ for the believer? Where is God in all of this? Part of the reason that the world thinks of the church in this way is because the people in the church think of the church this way. I’d like to explore this question this month: Why did God create the church on earth? I’ll give you a hint: God creat-ed the church on earth for His own glory. Therefore, the beginning and end for which we were created is to worship Him. Here are several verses to get you started: Isaiah 43:7, 21; John 4:23-24; and, Revelation 5. Come, let’s explore “worship” together.

The Father Is Seeking Such People To Worship Him (John 4:23),

Pastor Chip

God’s Kids

It’s the single most important ques on your child will ever ask. At some point in your child’s life, they will ask, “Who is God”? Without a God‐centered knowledge of who our creator is, children will get a self centered nature of this world view where personal feelings and mo ves are learned. Studies have shown that the best me to teach a child who God is and the life changing lessons His word brings, is between the pre‐school and early elementary years, (the forma ve years).

This is why God’s Kids Pre‐School was started as a Ministry of First Bap st Church. We are not your cookie cu er, same as everyone else, program.

We offer grape stomping, worm farming, once a week cooking (T is for Taco ‐ P is Pigs in a Blanket), a rainbow on a graham cracker with Ski les, as we learn about God’s promise. Memorizing weekly scripture verses and just learning about God’s love thru His son Jesus Christ.

Come join us as we start registra on now for God’s Kids. Where we are training children up for the Future and the Kingdom.

Children’s Ministry  The Children's Ministry has been studying 'The Be A tudes' on Sunday mornings and plan to con nue this study through March. Thus far, we have studied Ma hew 5:3‐5. The children have been challenged to learn these verses.

On Wednesday night we worship through music, prayer and Bible study. Doc McCleney had given his Wednesday night 3/4th graders a special project to help someone else (the kids know what this is). The children who complet‐ed this project, and wrote how they helped another person, received a reward from him which was a free trip to Main Street Pizza to celebrate. The Children's Ministry of FBC will con nue to serve, honor and celebrate our Lord, Jesus Christ! The Children's Ministry collected bears, Bibles, and cash for our "Hugs for Haley" mission project. These items, or cash used to purchase these items, are in memory of Haley Parker, Frank and Carol Parker's daughter who passed away with cancer when she was young. The bears and Bibles are taken personally by Frank and Carol to Children's Hospital to be given to children figh ng cancer. Thanks to all who supported this mission.

Our ongoing mission project is 'change for Alabama Bap st Children's Homes'. A 'Lighthouse' bank for the chil‐dren (or adults) to put their extra change into is in the FLC; all money collected in this bank will benefit the Ala‐bama Bap st Children's Homes. The bank is in the FLC. Finally, Centri Kid Kids Camp will be June 30‐July 4; sign‐up has ended. However, if your 3rd‐6th grade child decides to go, we may add him/her provided the venue has available spots. A $50.00 non‐refundable deposit would be due immediately. Our special Kids Camp benefit luncheon will be March 16th immediately following morning worship. The menu will be barbeque sandwich, chips and a pickle for a suggested dona on of $6.00. We will have baked goods also. Please reserve your plates by March 9th. For the month of March, the children will con nue their worship, praise, and Bible study on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. Family Worship will be the last Sunday of the month.

As always, if you have any concern, ques on, or sugges on please email me, or call my cell 205‐919‐8444....
