Dear Family and Friends, This term is speeding past with so many things happening. On the weekend of the 27 and 28 October, our Celebration Sing Out choir rehearsed and performed to raise money for the music program at the Westmead Childrens Hospital. Mrs Blackwell was the conductor of the combined primary choir which performed on the Sunday evening at the Sydney Town Hall. The studentsspectacular performance was enjoyed by many and was instrumental in raising $30 000 for the wonderful work done to ensure the sick children in the hospital have access to a music therapy program. A huge thank you goes to Mrs Blackwell for her work in preparing our choir and also preparing and conducting the combined choir. Not only did the students give up their weekend to support this worthy cause, some of our dedicated teachers did the same. Mrs Bond and Mrs McMath accompanied the choir to a rehearsal on Saturday to Granville Public School and Mrs McMath went up again on Sunday with Ms Murphy to accompany the students to Sydney. An enormous thank you to everyone. Stage 2 students had a wonderful day on their trip to Bradleys Head. Students explored aspects of our history and environment in this beautiful harbour-side setting. S3 are enjoying themselves on the Mid Coast. Students and teachers are participating in a range of outdoor education activities at the Aussie Bush Camp in Tea Gardens. Activities are designed to meet outcomes across a range of key learning areas in a pristine coastal environment. Yesterday, students attended the matinee viewing of Films by Eucalypts at Springwood. Entries of short films from across the mountains were shown to a captive audience. Our students who were successful in submitting films enjoyed the thrill of a walk along the red carpet at the evening premier of these entertaining short films. Thank you to Mrs Halse for her enthusiasm and organisation to ensure students had the opportunity to submit a film and attend the viewing. Ms Murphy accompanied a group of chess players to a gala day at the Blue Mountains Grammar School. Students were engaged in a number of closely contested matches and participated with a sense of fair play and comradery. Thank you, Ms Murphy. Today Lucinda K & Harrison W from Stage 2 are representing our school at the Blue Mountains Oral Reading Competition at Winmalee Public School. We wish them all the very best with their presentations. The long awaited and much anticipated ArtFest weekend is upon us. Opening on Friday night and running all weekend is the P&Cs largest annual fundraiser. A range of exquisite art and craft is on display and for sale so come along and enjoy. Our P&C use the funds from this event to support the purchasing of resources and funding of school events such as author visits which are enjoyed by all our students. If by chance you have some spare time over the weekend, your service as a volunteer would be greatly appreciated. It has again come to our attention that many students are discussing the content of shows and games that are unsuitable for young children. Many of our students find these discussions disturbing and upsetting. We would encourage all families to be mindful of the content of the shows and games that students are exposed to and ensure that the content is appropriate for young people. During this term, we will be focusing on the DET Core Values. Each week we will be focusing on a different core value and awarding the students on a Monday morning who have displayed this value. This week we have been discussing excellence as striving to do our very best in all aspects of school. Next weeks value will be respect; having consideration for yourself and others, while understanding the right of others to hold different views. It is that time of year again when we begin planning for the coming year. It is very helpful as we discuss classes for 2020, if we know of families that are moving on. Please contact the school to let us know if you have plans to move and will not be returning to Wentworth Falls Public School in 2020. Teachers are in the process of writing studentsSemester 2 reports. If you have any questions or concerns about your childs progress, please do not hesitate to contact his/ her teacher. Reports are due to go home in Week 10. Yours in learning, Gaynor Haynes Relieving Principal

School Swimming and Water Safety Program

25 November- 6 December 2019

We have 6 vacancies for the school swimming program.

Students who have not reached a satisfactory standard of water safety

and survival skills, and are unable to swim 25m confidently unaided in

deep water, are eligible to participate in the School Swimming and Water

Safety Program. The program focuses on weak swimmers in Year 2 to 4.

Permission notes are available from the school office.

Interrelate Program

Thank you, parents for your support of the Stage 3 Interrelate program. Delivered to year groups over 3 sessions, the program has been informative and helpful as well as relaxed. Students learned about life changes and respectful relationships and shared quite a few laughs, as well. Students who have completed the course (Year 6 is not quite finished yet) have given very positive feedback. If you have a child in Stage 3, we would encourage you to continue the conversations you have had with your child. Interrelate has some free resources for parents including pre recorded webinars (topics include bullying and cyber safety), guides to help with shared parenting and tips for areas like expressing feelings and managing stress. Visit www.Interrelate.org.au to access these.

Finally, thank you to the wonderful P and C who covered half the cost for every child in Stage 3, ensuring this excellent intiative was accessible. The staff continue to be grateful for the P and C’s support and hard work.

If you are leaving Wentworth Falls Public School at the end of the year please let the office know for 2020 planning.

Celebration Sing Out 2019 - 80 years of Public Schools Concerts

Dear Parents and Caregivers

I don’t need to tell you what an extraordinary night it was on Sunday 27 October. You already know that, and so do your children. It was one of those special occasions when so many elements come together, and the result is magic! It was on the faces of all the choristers, and their families – the joy and the wonder of making great music together, and knowing that you are helping sick children.

Mal spoke in the concert about music changing the lives of children for the better, and opening doors to joy and fulfil-ment. You have all played a part in that happening not only in the lives of those at Westmead Children’s Hospital but in all who contributed.

For my part it was an absolute privilege to be involved in such an amazing concert and I can’t thank you enough for the tremendous support you have continued to show.

You have all contributed to one of those musical occasions that will stay in our memories for ever!

In the words of some of our choristers themselves: When we went to the Town Hall my face lit up I was so happy when we sang. Violet

I loved how at the end we sang and danced and waved our scarves everywhere and had so much fun. Neva

I think that Charity Choir is so fun and exciting because I love to sing. Elodie

It was fun and nice and I loved when the pigeon pooped on me. Mavis

The orchestra was amazing. Marnie

I liked the scarf throwing.

It was my second once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sing in the Town Hall. Lucinda C

It was great to just relax and sing and do what I love. Bronte
