STAGE 1 – Archiving Strategy

• Identify a practical approach to the deposition of a range of

marine digital datasets acquired for archaeological purposes according to MEDIN priorities

• Develop a model of data flow which meets the archival requirements of the heritage sector

STAGE 2 – Data Preparation

• Assessment of archiving process, practicalities of data preparation and generation of metadata

» 39 datasets from 5 surveys

• Preparation according to the specific requirements of the different archive centres

» Geophysical/geotechnical datasets – 1.5 days per survey» Diving/ROV datasets – 3 days per survey

• Conclusions» The need for an archiving strategy to be incorporated/specified at the

outset» Dataset granularity, duplication of effort and metadata translation tools» MEDIN Metadata
