INSIDE THIS ISSUE

A new playground, expanded volleyball courts, a Utah Jazz basketball court, walking paths, shade trees, picnic boweries, ball fields – the West Bountiful City Park has some-thing for everyone! These improvements were made possible by years of hard work from elected officials, volunteers, city employees, and the support of the community through the RAP tax. Even the Utah Jazz/Larry H. Miller Charities chipped in to help.

The park is more popular than ever, so grab a basketball, a picnic basket, a kite, or a good book, and come join the community at West Bountiful’s beautiful city park.

state of the cityMosquitoes are more than a

nuisance; they are a major threat to public health. Proven preventative methods effectively control mosquitoes and reduce the risk of mosquito-transmitted diseases such as West Nile virus. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing or slow moving water. In residential areas, standing water can ac-cumulate in unused tires, cans, unused pools and pool covers, and other receptacles that collect water. Eliminate any standing water that collects on your property by:

• Removing all discarded tires from your property.

• Disposing of tin cans, plastic containers, ceramic pots, or similar water-collecting containers.

• Making sure roof gutters drain properly and remember to clean clogged gutters in the spring and fall.

• Cleaning and chlorinating swimming pools, outdoor saunas and hot tubs. If not in use, keep empty and covered.

Mosquito Season Protection Info• Draining water from pool

covers.

• Changing the water in bird baths at least every 3 or 4 days.

• Turning over plastic wading pools and wheel-barrows when not in use.

Use Insect Repel-lent Containing

DEET – a chemical that discourages mos-

quitoes from biting. Apply repellent to:

• Outer clothing and shoes.

• Exposed skin. Do NOT apply to skin under clothing.

• Do NOT apply to cuts, rashes, sun-burned skin, or skin conditions such as psoriasis.

• Do NOT apply directly to face. First put product on hand, then ap-ply to face. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, and mouth.

• Do NOT apply repellent in rooms without ventilation.

• Wash treated skin with soap and water upon returning indoors. Wash treated clothes separately.

Water QualityWest Bountiful is pleased to report

that our drinking water is safe and meets all state and federal water regu-lations. For the full Water Quality Report go to our website, www.wbcity.org or pick up a copy at City Hall.

Construction ProjectsPages Lanes

Work continues to replace water lines, storm drain pipes, and repave the road on Pages Lane from 800 West to 550 West. Curb, gutter and sidewalk will be added where it does not cur-rently exist. This project is scheduled to be complete by the end of June.

400 North ConstructionConstruction is underway as UDOT

re-paves 400 North from 800 West to Main Street in Bountiful. The West Bountiful portion of the project is planned for late June/early July.

With warmer weather comes WEEDS. Section 8.12.020 of the West Bountiful Nuisance Ordinance declares the follow-ing to be nuisances:

“Noxious Weeds.” Noxious weeds located on vacant lots or other property, along public sidewalks or the outer edge of any public street, or weeds in any other location which constitute a fire hazard.

“Vegetation.” Dead, decayed, diseased, or hazardous tree, weeds, hedges, and overgrown

Weed Abatement Resident Responsibilityor uncultivated vegetation which is in a hazardous condition, is an obstruction to pe-destrian or vehicular traffic, or which is likely to harbor rats, vermin or other pests.

Please keep the weeds in your yard maintained, and if you own a vacant lot please check your property often to make sure they do not become a problem.

If properties fall into violation and are not addressed after being properly noticed, fines of $100 per day may be assessed.

Garage Sale SignsAll garage or yard sale signs must be

removed immediately after the sale and must be placed only on private property. It is unlawful to attach such signs to utility poles, stop signs or any other public property. Signs placed unlawfully will be removed. Thank you for your cooperation.

Animals on LeashPlease keep your animals on a leash

any time they leave your fenced yard or home. This is especially important in areas where people gather or tend to walk. Dogs, on a leash, are permit-ted on the Prospector Rail Trail and the Onion Parkway trail, but are NOT permitted at our City Parks. If you encounter a problem with animals in our City, please contact the WB Po-lice Department at 801-298-6000 and they’ll determine when to call Davis County Animal Services.

SUMMER REMINDERS• Watch for kids playing in the streets and riding bikes – drive

slowly through neighborhoods.

• Remove empty garbage cans from the street as soon as possible after being emptied.

• No watering between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm.

• Please remember vegetation should be trimmed behind the curb line and 15 feet above the curb. Compliance will make streets safer for pedestrians and motorists and allow garbage trucks to move around more easily.

• Don’t leave children and/or pets in unattended vehicles.

Where Do I Get City Info?As a City, our goal is to make sure our

residents and visitors have access to the most current information possible. Please check our website www.WBCity.org, our facebook page facebook.com/WestBountifulCity, or follow us on twitter.com/westbountiful to stay on top of current happenings in and around our city.

Solicitors Need BadgeIf a person(s) comes to your door selling products or services,

they must have a West Bountiful City Solicitors photo ID displayed or produce it when requested by an occupant of the home. If they are rude or disorderly, or if at any time you feel threatened, ask them to leave and call the WB Police Depart-ment IMMEDIATELY. If you do not want solicitors, place a "No Solicitation" sign at your front door.

Never allow a stranger into your home. If someone ap-proaches your door and informs you that they are with a certain company, request to see their company picture ID card and city issued solicitor's registration badge. Teach your chil-dren these safety tips. Call the WB Police Department (801-298- 6000) if you observe suspicious persons or activities.

We would like to thank Ron Crandall for his hard work as the city Certified Emergency Response Team commander. The city has been well served.

Renate Allen will step into the role of CERT commander and work with Jason Meservy, the emer-gency preparedness commander, and many others who have gone through CERT training. WB CERT team will help with the Hill Air Force Base air show in June. The CERT trailer will be in the West Bountiful pa-rade and at the park during the celebra-tion on July 2.

community

We need your help! Do you have pictures, stories, news articles, etc. regarding West Bountiful’s history? Unbury those treasured pictures of yester year and help us update our records and add to our collection. We are in the process of compiling a new West Bountiful History Book and would like to make it as comprehensive as possible.

We need you to submit corrections that you noticed in the first edition of the West Bountiful History (blue) book and to send us items (pictures and script) of things that would be valuable for our next edition. Please take any items you may have to city hall during normal business hours and mark them to the attention of the Historic Commis-sion.

We will create a special section for any Service Men/Women who have lived in West Bountiful and served this great country, so please contact us with this information as well.

If you have a bit of free time, we also need help compiling the book, so please contact Gary Edmonds @801-510- 3244 or Debbie McKean @ 801-231- 8320 if you can help us.
