Rules and Expectations Commitment:

◦ Be on time “Dressed and Ready”◦ Arrive prepared (6 days a week)

Must have a valid physical prior to Monday, February 25 th IHSA rules state athletes may not play club during the high school season.

◦ Represent yourself and your team in a positive manner! Code of Conduct—Tuesday, March 5th, 6:30pm in Warriors Lodge Hazing—LW West has a strict hazing policy and no form of hazing is permitted

within our program. School Rules/Handbook

Communication:◦ Any absence requires notification prior to practice or a game. (email

(preferred) or voicemail is sufficient)◦ Without prior notification from the athlete or parent of the athlete, the

absence is considered “unexcused.”◦ Three unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the team.◦ Any time an athlete seeks care from a physician for an athletic injury, that

athlete may not return to play until we have a written release from the physician.

Rules and Expectations Absences from Practice

◦ Unexcused Absence Athlete will not play in the next game

◦ Excused for illness/injury (doctors note required) Coaches/trainers discretion

◦ Excused for non-soccer related reason (example vacation or family emergency, college visit, ACT class, Detention, etc.) Coaches discretion   Communicate conflicts in advance! Especially ACT Classes for Juniors! Wednesday Nights? Represent team in a positive manner

◦ At practice but unable to participate Illness- May try to send home Injury-Communicate with trainers (remain at practice)

The coaching staff will make the decision whether or not an athlete is fit to play based on practice attendance, practice performance, and fitness level.

PracticesPractice Structure:

◦ Dynamic Warm-up (20-30 minutes)◦ Technical Training (30 minutes)◦ Functional Training (20-25 minutes)◦ Tactical Training (20-25 minutes)

System of play◦ Short-sided games (20-25)

4V4,5V5, etc.◦ Set pieces (10 minutes)◦ Cool down/static stretching (10 minutes)

Training sessions are planned in advance. We cover a lot of information every day; therefore, it is critical to our success that athletes are in attendance for every training session!

Expectations

Athlete Communication:

◦ Evaluations: Coaches will evaluate athletes throughout the season and

offer strengths along with areas for improvement.

Although tentative team selections will take place next week, the evaluation process is ongoing throughout the entire season.

We have maintained an open-door policy between the coaching staff and athletes and wish to continue this tradition.

Expectations Athlete Communication:

◦ Eligibility/Rosters/Team Selections LW West JV2 (Frosh-Soph) Coach Jermolowicz

◦ All freshmen and sophomores not on varsity will make-up the JV2 roster.◦ Some of these athletes will also play at the JV1 level.

LW West JV1 (Frosh-Junior) Coach Stephens◦ Consists of:

All juniors not on varsity Freshmen and sophomores evaluated by the coaching staff to have the ability to compete at the JV1

level.

LW West Varsity (Frosh-Senior) Coach Theiss/Coach Fahey◦ Consists of:

All seniors within the program Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors evaluated by the coaching staff to have the ability to compete at

the varsity level. Underclassmen who train with varsity, but do not earn time at the varsity level, will have the

opportunity to play at the JV level.

Our goal is to place each athlete in the most competitive environment in which they can succeed.

There will be overlapping between levels. Athletes can and will change levels during the season of play. Playing time is not guaranteed at any level. Player-Coach communication is critical to our success.

ExpectationsParent Communication:

◦ Please do not approach a coach after a game. If a meeting is necessary, call or email the respective coach

the following day to set up a time. We will highly encourage that the athlete is present during

the meeting to eliminate any miscommunication.

◦ During the meeting the following will not be discussed: Playing time Another athlete’s performance/playing time The level at which any athlete is placed

*We will strictly stay focused on the athlete and offer suggestions for improvement.

PracticesPractice:

◦ All practices are held at Lincoln-Way West H.S.◦ Practices will take place after school from 3:00-5:45pm.◦ Saturday practice times are TBA (based on weather and facilities) Ideally 8-

10:45am.◦ In-season sports take precedence over off-season sports◦ Please pick up the athletes on time by the athletic hallway door 21◦ Please do not park along the sidewalk near door 21

Dress:◦ Shin guards are required for all practices and games and must contain the

NOCSAE stamp on the front of the shin guard. ◦ Players must be prepared to practice inside or outside every day.

Appropriate Attire for Cold Weather is Required!◦ Soccer cleats are required for outdoor.◦ Flats are required for indoor (Bring Both every day!)◦ School dress code applies◦ No jewelry! (Includes no tape over earrings)◦ As the weather gets warmer shorts must be soccer shorts.

Games Games:

◦ Games can be scheduled any day of the week Mon.-Sat.◦ An unexcused absence will result in a player having to sit out the next

game. ◦ Athletes must be academically eligible to play in games (passing at least

five classes).◦ Athletes are required to take the bus to all games and home from all

games. ◦ All under armor must be of the same color (black). ◦ All tape must be clear or of the same color as the sock. (Orange or White).

Sportsmanship:◦ Two of the past three years we have earned the SWSC Red Sportsmanship

Award! We take great pride in this! ◦ In years past sportsmanship from stands was excellent! ◦ As difficult as it may be at times; I ask—please do not yell at the officials

We have to set the example for our athletes. If it is a matter of player safety; I will address it.

Spring BreakSpring Break

Thursday, March 28th(early release)—Monday, April 8nd

Varsity and JV1 have 4 games over these dates:◦ Joliet West, Rich South, Sandburg, and Bolingbrook.

JV2 has 2 games scheduled: Additionally, varsity plays Joliet Central and hosts the Warrior Invite the

following week.

◦ If there is no way around this let me know tonight. An email containing the dates which will be missed is required in advance.

◦ Sufficient training is required prior to athletes re-entering a game. This will be determined on a case by case basis depending on the amount of time missed.

◦ Any suspension implemented is to promote commitment and avoid unnecessary injuries.

Prom

Prom is Saturday, May 4th ◦ We will still practice the regular times:

3:00-5:45pm (Friday) 8:00-10:45am (Saturday) Varsity Athletes: Let me know soon if this is a problem. We can work around

this with a Friday morning practice, and schedule practice earlier on Saturday; however, these practices are mandatory.

Tuesday May 14th is our first Regional Game!
