In this weekly feature written by

Mrs. Ashaba’s fourth grade class,

students showcase events happen-

ing at the school, as well as other

important information. This

week, students discuss the recent

Winter Carnival.

What were you doing on

12/12/12? Here at WOLCS,

many of our families, staff

and friends were attending

the 2012 Winter Carnival.

This annual event which is

coordinated by the Literacy

Department, was weeks in

the planning, and was an

overwhelming success. Held

from 6:00-8:00pm, families

were able to watch perfor-

mances, experience hands-on

literacy activities, tour

school hallways, and partici-

pate in crafts and games.

The Carnival was an oppor-

tunity to make reading come

alive.

Sponsored by the WOLCS

Parent Organization Fami-

lies Being Involved (FBI), a

dance troop called Ill Style

and Peace started the even-

ing. In addition, West Oak

Lane Charter School’s very-

own cheerleaders made their

performance debut. “The

cheerleaders were very

good,” said fourth grader

Gelisa McLaurin.

Following the performances,

families were able to tour the

beautifully decorated hall-

ways and vote for their fa-

a science show targeting

middle-schoolers led by the

Franklin Institute; Mrs.

Ashaba led 5-6th graders in

making snowflakes; while

younger students made

snowmen out of marshmal-

lows or a craft reindeer. Oth-

er crafts included finger

painting and bingo.

Your continued support for

our school activities drives

and attended the Carnival.
