Serving the Emergency Response, Exploration, Construction and Environmental industries worldwide, our products are operational in some of the most austere locations and harshest environments on Earth. Engineered with deployability in mind, all of our systems are designed to be portable, compact and interoperable.

For over 20 years, Western Shelter Systems has led the way in remote field support with efficiently deployed solutions and packaged support systems.

WESTERN SHELTER SYSTEMS™

Customer-driven logistics solutions for remote field operations

Portable Shelter Facilities Western Shelter Systems provides remote site facilities designed specifically for your project requirement. Recognized for our innovative solutions to remote site challenges, we manufacture proven products arranged into unique systems to meet the demands of each challenge. As a result, facilities from Western Shelter Systems are a combination of high-quality equipment and comprehensive systems integration delivering to you the most cost effective facilities available.

Our selections of aluminum-framed, fabric covered shelters are suitable for a 6-person fly camp, or a 10,000 person construction camp. A portable shelter facility from Western Shelter Systems is 1/3 the weight and 1/7 the shipping volume of a traditional trailer camp of equivalent square footage.

Our shelters have been configured as individual bedrooms or dorms, kitchens, dining rooms, recreation areas, laundry or storage rooms, shower houses, ablutions, offices and medical space.

A turnkey facility from Western Shelter Systems is complete from shelter to sewage if needed, and packaged to facilitate almost any transportation method.

Complexed Shelter FacilitiesOne of the unique features of a Western Shelter Systems camp facility is the ability of all shelters to interconnect with one another. This operational feature allows the creation of a facility with no limit to the size of the interconnected complex.

The entire facility can be environmentally controlled allowing personnel to travel throughout the complex in complete comfort while limiting the amount of exposure to outside elements. Our Trailer Boot Connector allows you to transition from a trailer to a shelter while maintaining this environmental protection.

Hybrid Shelter FacilitiesWestern Shelter Mobility manufactures and up fits a variety of trailer systems, trucks and ISO container systems. A typical hybrid facility consists of several trailer units combined with a variety of shelters.

The trailer units will have the more complex utilities such as the kitchen and ablution facilities with their plumbing and electrical systems pre-installed. Shelters stored inside these trailers during transport are then deployed on site providing sleeping accommodations, recreation areas, offices, dining and any other number of uses.

A hybrid facility can ship with a footprint that is only ¼ the footprint of a fully deployed complex. Trailers Systems offer over the road logistical advantages while container and pod based configurations lend themselves to air and ocean mobility.

7 Shelter InteriorsThe Vestibule Connector allows multiple shelters to be joined together creating efficient living space not found with other types of tents. The 6’ sidewall allows every square foot of the structure to be utilized. Both fabric and/or wood partitions may be used to create rooms and/or hallways within the shelters. Multiple entrances may be used for access to segregated areas.

Interior applications are designed specifically for your use and we welcome your requirements and design challenges.

Western Shelter GK1935The GK1935 is the workhorse of the shelter line. Measuring 18’ 7” (5.7m) wide and 33’ 11” (10.4m) long, with 6’ (1.8m) sidewalls and a total center height of 10’ 9” (3.3m), this shelter offers 570 square feet (53 square meters) of usable floor area. This shelter can be utilized as a kitchen or dining space, or any combination thereof. They can be set up to sleep 10 persons dorm style in single bunks or up to 20 when bunk beds are utilized. Optional dividers can create from 2 to 6 separate rooms within the shelter. When utilized as office space, they will easily accommodate multiple work stations. The GK1935 works well for laundries, shower houses and combined bathroom/ablution type complexes.

Western Shelter GK20The GK20 is a generously sized 18’ 7” (5.7m) side-to-side octagon, with the same 6’ (1.8m) useable sidewall, and a peak height of 10’9” (3.3m) that serves a large variety of functions within a camp facility. At 286 square feet, the GK20 will sleep up to 4 people dorm style or can be divided into 2 individual rooms. They can be utilized for small kitchen or diners in fly camps, and combination shower/hygiene facilities in small camps as well. The size also lends itself for use as utility shelters, such as housing water purification where equipment can be protected from the elements.

Engineered for Extreme Conditions The Western Shelter Systems line of portable field shelters and support equipment was originally designed in the mid-80’s to provide an easily transported, simple to erect and weather secure working environment for industry operating in remote conditions.

From the Arctic to the Tropics, our customers have put our systems through the harshest of tests and have proven the reliability of our designs, materials and construction. Their experiences contribute to the continual quality improvement that supports our global reputation for excellence.

The Western Shelter design is based on the geometry of the octagon shape, which inherently delivers more structural integrity than a conventional square or rectangular structure. As increased loads are placed on the roof, the interlocking eave bars generate more stability to the shelter. The additional planes of the sides also tend to shed wind load, thus minimizing wall flap and creating a quieter and completely useable interior. The cover system performs independent of the shelter frame, allowing the shelter to be utilized without the top and/or wall panels if needed.

lsWestern Shelter GK2360 Measuring a huge 22’ 8” (6.9m) wide and 60’ 1” (18.3m) long, with 6’ (1.8m) sidewalls and a total center height of 12’ (3.7m), the GK2360 is the largest shelter you can set up without the aid of any tools, ladders or lifts. One trained individual with 5-7 helpers can set up this shelter in under an hour. The GK2360 provides over 1274 square feet of completely useable floor space. In larger camps, this shelter can be utilized as a kitchen or dining space, or a combination thereof. They can be set up to sleep 20 persons dorm style in single bunks, or up to 40 when bunk beds are utilized. Optional wall dividers can create from up to 10 separate rooms within the shelter including a central hallway. When utilized as office space, they will easily accommodate multiple work stations and individual rooms as needed. The GK2360 works well for large laundries, shower houses, and combined bathroom/ablution type complexes, especially where gender separation is required. The GK2360 often serves as the central “hub” within a shelter complex.

Western Shelter UL16 The UL16 shelter is a utilitarian 14’ 11” (4.6m) side-to-side octagon, with the same 6’ (1.8m) sidewall as our other shelters. It provides 184 square feet of useable floor space. The UL16 features our three-way windows. It has zippered doorways rather than the frame mounted double doors found on our other shelters. This shelter has a tarp style floor as opposed to a sealed floor system (as utilized in our other shelters). The UL16 can be utilized as the main shelters for smaller, highly mobile fly camps providing all functions in camp including sleepers, kitchen-diners, and combination shower/hygiene facilities as well. The size also lends itself for use as utility shelters housing functions such as pump stations, communications equipment, environmental monitoring gear, core shacks, and general storage use. This shelter can be set up by 2 persons in less than 5 minutes.

Shelter OptionsIn addition to the shelter’s basic features, our team has designed a full line of options ranging from entryways and interior divider walls to trailer boot connectors, that allow you to create a custom system and configuration specific to your requirements.

The Vestibule Connector is essential to increasing the flexibility and expansion capability of your shelter system. This rigid framed addition connects to each shelter (except HO 16) creating a variety of configurations and complexes. Each Vestibule Connector adds 58 sq ft to the facility footprint and measures 7’ 8” x 7’ 8” (2.35m x 2.35m).

The Vestibule Entryway can be quickly installed onto an existing double door wall or sidewall to create an enclosed, weather-secure entryway or mudroom. The Entryway adds 8’ by 8’ (2.44m x 2.44m) of operational space and comes complete with roof insulation, vinyl flooring and a push-through environmental partition that can be installed between the entryway and the main room of the shelter.

Thermal Barrier Roof and Wall Panels creates an energy reflective layer of insulation directly inside the outer vinyl layer. This layer of insulation provides noise abatement, creates dead air space and minimizes heating and cooling energy requirements.

Portable Flooring provides a stable platform that allows furnishings and other equipment to rest on a stable floor while greatly reducing foot and leg stress. Custom-sized to fit all shelters and vestibules, the Portable Roll-Out Flooring System is fast and easy to deploy.

Our Pre-Cut Wood Floor Platform Systems create the perfect base for camps deployed long term or on uneven terrain. Each platform kit includes all dimensional lumber, decking, fasteners, sealant, batting and assembly instructions. Leveling dunnage is not included. Optional vinyl or carpet surfaces can be supplied.

Screen Wall Panels maximize natural ventilation in hot or humid weather by providing a natural cross-ventilation and air circulation throughout the shelter.

The Lighting Kit is pre-configured for each shelter and utilizes our 4 ft. inline Tube Lights. When lighting levels need to be adjusted or isolated to specific areas, the Tube Light Dimmer Sleeve™ allows each light to be individually adjusted to the perfect illumination.

The Interior Wiring Harness furnishes power for

lights, computers and other equipment within each shelter. Weather-tight duplex outlet boxes mount to the top of each vertical leg around the interior perimeter of the shelter, keeping the outlets off the ground. Equipped with a 15-amp GFCI device, heavy-duty wiring harnesses can be custom ordered for specialty applications and larger power demand.

7 Utilities Western Shelter Systems manufactures shelters and camps that are not only portable, but uniquely redeployable by design. We have developed, and continue to develop a full array of power generation, electrical management and distribution, water service and distribution, waste management and treatment as well as heating and/or cooling systems that are modular by design for easy field installation by non-tradespersons.

By providing systems that are mostly pre-assembled, and stored in packaging that serves secondary functions within the facility, Western Shelter systems are quickly installed during set up, and then efficiently recovered and stored until the next deployment.

Climate ControlProviding a clean and comfortable internal environment can be pivotal during operations, especially when the facility is positioned in a hot and humid, or cold/freezing location. From heating and cooling units to air circulation options, equip your shelters with a system that creates a comfortable environment during field operations.

Electrical SystemsOutfitting a field operation with the electrical components you need to run an operation can be a daunting task. Western Shelter Systems has created an electrical system that can furnish power to a single shelter or an entire complex. Our electrical components were designed to be easily transportable and quick to deploy, providing on-scene power management to meet almost any need. We offer external components such as spider boxes, electrical distribution panels and on-scene generators. The generators, ranging in size from 3.5 Kw to 150 Kw, have a main harness that feeds the distribution panel, and then sub-cables feed to the various “Spider Boxes”, smaller all weather distribution hubs, which then feed to individual shelters. The entire system is GFCI protected all the way to the grounding rod at source. It is completely plug and play, no professional tradesmen needed here!

All camp systems can be delivered in 110/220V 60Hz or 208/230V 50Hz configurations specific to location of operations.

Water HandlingWhen operating a large camp or portable facility, deploying a water handling system, complete with sinks, showers and relief stations, is an important part of your overall system.

The field water handling equipment line provides a pre-assembled modular, expandable, portable and interoperable system that covers all your camp needs. From storing water, heating it and then pressurizing and delivering it to the fixtures, our kits are easy to deploy, assemble and then store for the next project.

Water PurificationWestern Shelter Systems provides a variety of systems to clean the water utilized for the camp facility. Our system philosophy is one of keeping the purification equipment on the smaller and more efficient scale, and to then store the final product for distribution as needed from the storage vessel(s) throughout the camp. This system is more cost effective than providing high volume, on demand type systems, which can be prohibitively expensive, fragile and complex.

WastewaterWhether your camp will produce black and gray water sewage, or only gra y, Western Shelter Systems has a variety of components and systems to collect and take care of the wastewater discharge from the camp. Sewage from kitchens, ablutions and laundries is collected in our packaged sump pump systems for transfer to the treatment and/or storage bladders. Disposing of the collected wastewater can be handled in a variety of ways, ranging from on-site portable wastewater treatment systems to gray water bladders where the product is stored awaiting removal by tanker to a sanctioned disposal site.

7 Field ShowersWith the ability to incorporate our pre-packaged water handling system and provide a clean and comfortable showering space with added privacy options, our interoperable shower system is easily expandable and can be configured to meet your project requirements.

Each system can be deployed as a standalone shelter or as an integrated vestibule inside the shelter in configurations such as; a two shower system, a single stall shower with an accompanying private dressing room or a toilet enclosure. Built with the same durable materials as our shelters, each system incorporates shower catch basins plumbed for the recovery of gray water.

Field SinksThe perfect addition to our field showering system, our line of field sinks are available in three sizes; one, two or three basin sinks. They are portable and rapidly deployed sink systems with individually controlled hot and cold water faucets. Each sink is housed in a rugged aluminum case with a stainless steel basin. Both the double and triple basin sinks come with unbreakable Lexan mirrors. These self-contained sinks can be interconnected with our showers via the pre-assembled plumbing kits. Hot water is supplied with any of our Demand Hot Water systems.

Field Latrines Maintaining adequate sanitation services for your field operation often poses a challenge. For fly camps and other short term operations, Western Shelter Systems has created a full line of sanitation options for the unique needs of your operation. With options ranging from single stall field toilets to portable lavatory kits, we provide the most complete selection found.

tStorage & TransportAll products are stored in protective field bags. The next level of storage and protection is our optional aluminum case line, built of aluminum with a powder-coated finish, foam padding, heavy-duty recessed lifting handles and latches. All lids are removable and most cases serve secondary functions within the camp once the original contents are removed. Almost all cases are made of a unique “dimple” process which allows the cases to securely stack on each other.

Storage and Transport trailers are available in sizes from 14 to 53 feet. All trailers are designed with drop-down ramp rear doors and curb-side forward man-doors. Frame-welded E-Track brackets on floors and walls are standard to maximize tie-down flexibility. Dehumidifiers are also standard while heat and air conditioning as well as awnings and exterior scene lighting are optional.

All trailers can be ordered with a variety of interior functions for use in the camp after the trailer is emptied of its’ cargo. These installations can include an office space mounted in the nose, a small kitchen, bathrooms, a shower system or any other number of configurations where pre-assembled hard wiring and plumbing is advantageous to a portable camp.

Trailer BootThe Trailer Boot allows almost any trailer to connect to almost all Western Shelters creating a weather protected passage way from the shelter to the rear of the trailer. The optional double doors can be utilized to create a door protected entry to the trailer from the interior of the shelter. Ideal application for smaller camps when a kitchen or ablution is hard installed inside the trailer. Also handy for connecting office, lab, communications or management space located within the trailer to the rest of the camp.

ShippingAll Western Shelter Camps that are not pre-positioned within a trailer are professionally boxed and crated for their journey to your destination. Shelters are generally packaged in individual boxes and when necessary are placed in larger crates and/or on large pallets for a more efficient load. Crates are marked and all loads are manifested with each crate’s contents, weight and function within the camp for easy identification at the project site. Crating style ranges from disposable to re-useable based on client direction.
