• On Nov.5-11, 2018, the first China International Import Expo (CIIE)was held in Shanghai. Initiated by Ministry of Commerce of China, theevent hosted over 3,600 enterprises from more than 170 countriesand regions in attendance. Since the first announcement of CIIE inMay, 2017 by Chinese President Xi Jinping there has been 553,000impressions about it.
• CIIE has become a new icon of the 40th anniversary of China’s openingup to the outside world. With this annual event, China hopes to senda clear message to the world that it continues to advocate formultilateralism, fair trade, and addressing the global trade imbalance.For multinationals like Cargill, this event provides a great opportunityto show support for the government’s agenda and commitment tothe China market, as well as deliver its voice and expand brandreputation.
• However, this left us with less than a month to handle multiple on-going projects as well as put together a plan for Cargill’s mostimportant event of the year and subsequently articulate theirmessaging through the effective media channels.
• During the week-long CIIE, our team secured over 30 mediainterviews for 3 spokespeople at Cargill, which contributed to over 80impressions on Chinese mainstream media like CCTV, People’s Daily,Xinhua News Agency, etc. Cargill describe the communication resultsfor the CIIE event as the best their corporate communications has hadin the last few years.
